Redskins Cowboys Spread Line and Prediction Week 1

This weeks matchup sees the Washington Redskins host the Dallas Cowboys. This opening game is a tough test for both teams who’ve got a lot of questions to be answered this season. Few Super Bowl hosts in recent history have been as ready to win it all as the Cowboys this year. Simply put, this season is make or break for coach Wade Phillips. After squandering opportunities in the playoffs against the Saints last year, and the Eagles and Giants the years before, the pressure to win it all this year is immense. Fortunately for them, they’ve got the team and the talent to do it, but it all begins this week on the road in Washington.

The Redskins got more off season publicity than any other team this year. They fired their GM and head coach, and said goodbye to QB Jason Campbell. They brought in hall of fame coach Mike Shanahan and former Eagles QB Donovan McNabb. Washington’s problems last year centered around their offense, or lack of. The Skins finished 22nd in overall offense, and this was heightened in both games against Dallas. They managed a meager 6 points over two games, losing the first 7-6 and then getting shut out a few weeks later, 17-0. McNabb and Shanahan were brought in to breathe new life into the offense, and I fully expect them to improve from last years output. Their defense was better than average last year, finishing 10th overall and 8th against the pass. In both meetings against Dallas, they held Romo to an average of 222 yrds passing, with 2 TDs and 2 INTS. But overrated Skins CB Deangelo Hall isn’t playing at the level he did with Atlanta, and the size and strength of the Dallas receivers should make it a tough night for him.

The Cowboys have more talent than the Skins on both sides of the ball. McNabb has the ability to get into a rhythm, but it’ll take the Skins a few games to adjust to the off season changes. Washington will come out strong and the crowd will help them get off to an explosive start, but once Dallas settle down, their talent on both sides of the ball should prove to be too much for Washington.

Redskins vs Cowboys Predictions for Week 1 Game:

Spread Prediction (TOP PLAY) – The Cowboys should have no problem covering this spread. Washington will come out fast, and the Skins aggressive play calling may take the Cowboys by surprise early on. But the Cowboys are a Super Bowl ready team, and getting off to a good start is crucial, take the boys. TOP PLAY PREDICTION – COWBOYS -3.5

Game Total Prediction – Usually during the first week, offenses are out of sync and defenses excel. This was evident between the Saints and Vikings on Thursday night at the Superdome. But this matchup sees the Redskins, a team that’s offense changed more drastically than any other team this off season, and the Cowboys who were a team that are notorious for putting up a large number of points in opening games (34 against the Bucs in 2009, 28 against Cleveland in 2008, 45 against the Giants in 2007). Take the over with confidence in this matchup. PREDICTION – OVER 40 POINTS
