The over is 16-5 in the Steelers last 21 playoff games, and 4-1 in their last 5 games overall. The under is 8-3 in Green Bay’s last 11 games following an ATS win and 9-4 in their last 13 games against a team with a winning record. The over has come in for both of Pittsburgh’s wins in the playoffs this year, with the total of 43 exceeding the O/U of 38 against the Jets in the AFC Championship Game and the total of 55 easily exceeding the O/U of 37.5 against Baltimore in the divisional round. For the Packers, the under came in against Chicago in the NFC Championship Game with a total of 35 to come in under the O/U of 42. In the Wild Card round at Philadelphia, the under came in as well at 37 to come in under the O/U number of 46.5. In the Divisional round against Atlanta, the Packers offense exploded and easily covered the over on 43.5, scoring 48 points themselves in a 48-21 romp.

The last meeting between the two teams last season in Pittsburgh on December 20, 2009 featured a barrage of offense as the two teams combined for 73 points to easily exceed the O/U number of 41.5 in a 37-36 Steelers victory. In that contrast, both offenses were able to move up and down the field, with Rodgers and Roethlisberger both throwing for over 350 yards in less than perfect weather conditions.

Super Bowl XLV Prediction for Over/Under:

Over/Under Prediction – The under is the play to make in this game. Pittsburgh will look to run the ball and control the clock against a Packer defense that was weaker against the run than the pass, ranking 18th in the league in that category. Roethlisberger is tough to bring down and can extend plays with his feet, which should allow him to prolong drives and keep Rodgers and the packer offense off the field. The climate controlled conditions necessitate that Pittsburgh win the time of possession battle because Green Bay lit up the Atlanta Falcons secondary in the climate-controlled Georgia Dome. Rodgers is capable of having a big day against a Pittsburgh secondary that is somewhat of a weak spot with 214.1 YPG allowed. If the Steeler defense is not able to get pressure on Rodgers, he can pick apart their corners. The thinking here is that Pittsburgh will be able to control the clock and keep the score down. The game plan for both teams will be much different than they last time the teams met, and the score will be much lower as well.
