TCU vs. Oklahoma State Pick – CFB November 7th

If you want a game to hold you over before LSU and Alabama, this should be the one. This one promises a little more scoring than LSU and Alabama tonight. If up and down the field action is your thing it’s going to be the game for you. TCU travels a little north to Oklahoma State for a critical matchup in the BIG 12. The Cowboys got behind early last week, but rallied in a big way to down Texas Tech by a score of 70-53. I have seen a lot of college football games with no defense, but that one was definitely a candidate for one of the worst with no defense. Texas Tech jumped out to a 17-0 lead, looking like the Red Raiders were going to run away with that game. But with their defense, I was cautious that the game was far from over. Sure enough, what followed was 73 points allowed by Texas Tech. The Oklahoma State offense kept pouring it on and the Red Raiders didn’t have an answer for it. They just eventually couldn’t keep up.

It was the most impressive win for Oklahoma State this season, as they moved to 8-0 with the victory. That gets you a 14 spot in the national rankings. The voters are making their voice heard, Oklahoma State, you are 8-0 but you haven’t played any elite teams thus far. Texas Tech was above and beyond the best offense they played all year long, and despite the win, they still gave up 53 points. Against a team with a defense there is no way that game is a win. The Red Raiders have one of the worst defensive unit in all of college football. The defense doesn’t get any rest for Oklahoma State. Now they have to turn around this week and play another high octane offense, the TCU Horned Frogs. They will have to do a far better job to than last week, if they show the same effort, TCU will easily eclipse 60 points this week.

TCU is sitting at 8-0 and 8th in the country, they have to be feeling disrespected some. They felt disrespected last year when they were left out of college football playoff, now the way it’s going it looks like they may be on the outside looking in even if they finish undefeated. This is why the college football playoff needs to get extended to 8 teams. There is going to be even more controversy than last season. I can tell you that much right now. Let’s get on to this matchup, featuring two 8-0 schools in the BIG 12.

TCU vs. Oklahoma State Pick:

There are big matchups in college football this weekend that will have far reaching implications weeks from now. This is essentially an elimination team for TCU and Oklahoma State. Both could still be on the outside with perfect records, but 1 loss would cripple them with no chance. I think the ranking for Oklahoma State is justified despite going undefeated. The best teams they have beaten are Kansas State, West Virginia, and Texas Tech. That isn’t the prettiest lineup. All the players can do is play against teams they’ve been given, and Oklahoma State has been perfect in that regard. However, TCU is without a doubt the best team they have played, finally, the 9th game in they play a contender. The Cowboys face an offense, led by Trevone Boykin, that has averaged 48.9 points per game this season.

TCU had some extra time to prepare for this one. They’re coming off an easy 40-10 win last Thursday against West Virginia. Against WVU, Oklahoma State scathed by three weeks ago with a 33-26 win in overtime. That was a nice sign for TCU against West Virginia, as the defense came to play as well. Early in the season they were getting torched, but they are starting to get healthier on the defensive side of the ball. That is key for them if they want to make the top 4. TCU can be beat on the ground, but Oklahoma State doesn’t have a superior run game. They average 150 yards on the ground. Oklahoma State is left with the task of stopping a passing game of TCU who are throwing for 392.4 yards a game. I think Oklahoma State finally gets exposed this week. They finally get what it feels like to play a real team this week.

PICK: TCU -5.5 (-110)
