Texans Eagles Spread Line and Betting Predictions

The Houston Texans had an impressive victory last week as their defense stepped up for the first time this year and shut out the Titans. Meanwhile the Eagles took a step back with an away loss to the Bears. The Texans and Eagles meet this week on Thursday Night Football, and it’ll be interesting to see whether Houston’s defense can stop the Eagles running game and continue where they left off last week.

Houston completely shut down the Titans RB Chris Johnson last week; he finished the game with a career low 7 carries for 5 yards. The Texans started out the year with one of the best front line units in the league, but began to falter during the middle part of the year. They’re currently in the top 10 at stopping the run, holding teams to 100 yards per game. But their secondary has been so bad that their run defense hasn’t garnered much attention. Their pass D played the best of the year last week, but we can’t look too much into this because they faced 1st time starter Rusty Smith. Michael Vick is not a first time starter, and even with the Eagles loss last week, Vick still played very well, finishing the game with over 300 yards. Critics are jumping on his 1 INT last week, but mainly because it was his first of the year and they need something to write about. But it’ll be more about the running game against the Texans that will be the difference.

The Eagles didn’t run the ball as much as they usually do last week against the Bears. That’s mainly due to the Bears great run defense. But when they did run the ball, they were successful. LeSean McCoy ran 10 times for 53 yards (average of 5.3) and Vick stepped up 9 times for 44 yards (average of 4.9). The Eagles usually run the ball around 25 times per game, so look for their carries to hit this number this week.

Texans vs. Eagles Prediction for Week 13 Betting:

Game Total Prediction (Top Play): The last time the Eagles played on Prime Time they stomped on the Redskins. Washington have a good defense, but they weren’t ready for the lethal combination of Mike Vick, DeSean Jackson, and Andy Reid. The Texans defense played well last week, but it was a divisional game and they were due, coming off 5 straight losses. The spread is too big for me to make it my top play, but I’m fairly confident that this game will go over the number. The Eagles can score, and we can’t forget about the Texans offense either. Andy Reid is one of the most aggressive play callers in the league, and the Texans will have to remain high powered to keep with them.

Top Play Prediction = Over 51.5

Spread Prediction: With the Texans coming off a big divisional win and the Eagles coming off a big conference loss, the odds makers are assuming things will go back to normal this week, and that’s why they’ve made the line so big. But two high scoring teams playing on Prime Time at this point of the year usually make for competitive games. I see the Texans staying close with the passing game.

Spread Prediction = Texans + 9
