This is a classic star powered matchup of two unbeaten teams as the top ranked Alabama Crimson Ride face off against the number two ranked Texas Longhorns on January 7th. Although fellow unbeaten teams TCU, Cincinnati and Boise State might feel like they deserve to be in the championship game, neither of those teams would have delivered a high-profile matchup like this one. The Crimson Tide feature former NFL coach Nick Saban as well as Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram and six first team All-Americans. The Texans feature Heisman Nominee Colt McCoy and an equally stacked roster. Texas is familiar with the BCS championship as it is seeking its second one in the last five years with the last coming in 2005, led by Vince Young, they upset Southern California for a 41-38 win in one of the best college games of all time. Alabama is coming off a dominating win against Florida in the SEC title game, snapping the then ranked number one Gators 22 game winning streak. Running back Mark Ingram is hoping to lead the Tide to its first national title since 1992. He rushed for a school-record 1542 yards and 15 touchdowns this season and was the first ever Heisman winner to wear an Alabama jersey. The Longhorns path to the championship was far more stressful as they barley beat Nebraska in the Big 12 championship game with a 13-12 victory on December 5th by a 46 yard field goal as time expired. Marco’s BCS Championship Predictions:
Final Score Prediction – Texas 20 vs. Alabama 17 (OT)
Spread Prediction – This will be the final test for Texas quarterback Colt McCoy. The senior returned for another year of school to peruse a national championship and posted 3512 yards and 27 touchdowns while completing 70.5 percent of his passes. He has the experience over Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy who has been efficient this year in his first full year at the helm for the Tide. Experience is everything when it comes to championship games. McElroy will be tested as Texas stellar defense shuts down Ingram and I don’t think he will perform to par. Take Texas to beat this spread.
Over/Under – Both teams have stellar offenses as the Tide had the nations 12th best rushing game at 215.8 yards a game while the Longhorns have the nationals 14th best passing game at 279.7 yards a game. However, the old saying “Defense wins championships” will be evident in this one. The Tide were number one in the country allowing just 11 points per game and the Longhorns are ranked first in the country in rush defense allowing just 62.9 yards a game. Take the under in this one.
