Week 2 of the 2013 college football season features a Friday night (8:00 pm ET) ACC match up from Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill, MA with the Demon Deacons of Wake Forest (1-0, 0-1 ATS) taking on the host Boston College Eagles (1-0, 0-1 ATS) in prime time. Wake Forest opened the season with a 31-7 over FCS Presbyterian. Boston College opened with a 21-14 win over Villanova last week, and both teams will try to sustain that opening week momentum with a short week of preparation for their first conference game of 2013.
Last week the Demon Deacons held Presbyterian to two first downs, 151 yards and 49 passing yards; an impressive performance to be sure but they will be stepping in weight class this week against BC. Michael Campanaro, the Deacons’ All-ACC flanker who missed the opener while nursing a tight hamstring, practiced Monday and is expected to play Friday.
Boston College gave up 234 total yards and 14 points in the first half against Villanova, the Eagle defense gave up only 121 yards and no points in the second half.Quarterback Chase Rettig (23-for-30 for 285 yards and two TDs) had a solid game last week, but BC played the fourth quarter without star running back Andre Williams, who left the game with a strained hamstring after romping to 114 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries. Williams, a 6-0, 229-pound bruiser, gained 599 yards on 130 carries last season, despite not playing again after suffering an abdominal injury early in the ninth game against Wake Forest on November 3 of last year, a game the Demon Deacons won 28-14 to cover a 3.5 point spread.

Boston College has an advantage in terms of Wake Forest fully expects to see Williams play for BC in Friday’s game. Based on reports from Boston, it sounds as if Wake Forest should be prepared to see him in action. With both teams having an abysmal track record against the spread in recent play, the play here has to be the total. The Eagles have a strong track record of playing low-scoring games, and the under is a very strong trend for them. With Williams expected back to carry the rock for BC, expect them to control the clock and play tough defense against a Demon Deacon team that ranked 116th in the nation in scoring last season. Early in the season the defenses are usually ahead of the offenses, expect that to certainly be the case in this game with two teams coming off of bad years last season and facing their first real test of 2013. Take the under in this game.
