The college football schedule for week 7 opens up tonight on Thursday with one interesting matchup. Typically Thursday night games are pretty unwatchable but this is a game you may want to watch. West Virginia and TCU meet for a game that promises to an entertaining affair. The Horned Frogs enter tonight with a national ranking of 5. With an undefeated record of 7-0, TCU has to be feeling a little disrespected by the pollsters. They had a difficult time against Texas Tech and Kansas State in recent weeks, but TCU did what they had to do to advance to a perfect record. Their 5th spot just says how much it isn’t just about winning, but winning big and avoiding struggles against teams they should crush. KSU getting smashed by Oklahoma the following week after TCU’s 52-45 win didn’t make matters much better. Texas Tech also haven’t been world beaters as well, so one could come to the conclusion that those were supposed to be big wins for TCU, not games they just got by on.
The West Virginia Mountaineers are way back in the discussion. Not just in the country, but in their own conference. West Virginia comes into TCU with a record 3-3 and a 8th spot in the BIG 12. And here we are in another situation where TCU is supposed to hammer their opponents. As a 14 point favorite, yeah, there is a certain assumption that a big victory is warranted to move up. If TCU isn’t happy with their ranking, here is their opportunity at home to ring up the score over West Virginia. I think this is going to have to take a 25+ win to get the attention of voters. As a guy that has watched a lot of TCU games, I can attest to why they aren’t in the top 4.
It begins and ends with the defense. The offense is good as any team in the country, but getting torched for 40+ points every weekend doesn’t sit well. They have played teams they can simply outgun, but when they finally hit a good defense, things could get dicey for them. West Virginia does not have the talent on defense to do that, but can they do enough to cover this spread?

West Virginia vs. TCU Pick:
For West Virginia to stay with TCU in this game, they’re going to have to keep up offensively. I have no doubts that TCU is going to put a 50 or so spot up on the Mountaineers. The offense is the one thing on the Horned Frogs that you can bank on performing. I am fairly confident they roll up the points against West Virginia. WVU has been getting torn apart on defense pretty much on a weekly basis. The last three weeks they’ve allowed an average of 46.3 points defensively. That equates to 139 points given up in just three weeks. Last week they had Baylor, one of the best offenses in college football, who ended up rolling over them for 62 points in a 62-38 win for Baylor. No time to lay back, because now they have another one of the best offenses in college football ready for them.
Pretty brutal scheduling in that sense for West Virginia, who were left with the task of running down Baylor last week, now they need to do it against TCU. The Horned Frogs are averaging 50.1 points per game. The offense is propelled by talented quarterback Trevone Boykins who has passed for 25 touchdowns and 5 interceptions with 2539 yards. He has also rushed for 5 touchdowns. The line in this game is situated pretty closely to both teams points per game. Note that West Virginia is averaging 36.3 points per game. I think TCU is going to pile the points up in this game, but I am scared laying that many points with such a poor defense. This game has backdoor written all over it. So, I think look at the total is a wiser choice, notably the OVER 75.5. A number I think should be at 79.
PICK: OVER 75.5 POINTS (-110)
