Romanov’s Odds are Climbing

Romanov opened as the -600 betting favorite when the betting lines opened on Wednesday morning. But his odds have climbed since then and is now at -1400 at the best UFC betting sites. While Romanov has been the betting favorite in all of his previous UFC bouts, he has never closed at betting odds shorter than -600, the price at which he entered the Octagon against Jared Vanderaa. His opening odds against Sherman are also shorter than the -500 he opened with in the aborted fight with Boser.
The 31-year-old from Comrat, Moldova is a former freestyle wrestler who represented his country in various junior and senior events. Romanov began his MMA career at Moldova’s Eagle FC Promotion where he became heavyweight champion. also made appearances for ProFC Ukraine and S-70: Plotforma Cup before signing with the UFC in 2020. In four UFC bouts so far, Romanov is undefeated with three of his wins via stoppage. The fourth win was a split technical decision in a fight where Romanov received an accidental knee to the groin and was unable to continue.
In his most recent UFC appearance, Romanov knocked out former Smash Global Heavyweight champion Jared Vanderaa inside two rounds at UFC Vegas 39 last October 9, 2021. The win improved Romanov’s undefeated record to 15-0 with six knockouts and 8 wins by way of submission.
Chase Sherman Steps in For Tanner Boser

Sherman will be returning to the UFC just days after he was cut by the promotion. The 32-year-old received the call back when Boser was unable to make the fight after suffering an undisclosed injury. Despite having only four days to prepare, Sherman gladly accepted the offer as he hopes to make a third run in the UFC.
The former Bare Knuckle FC heavyweight champion first joined the UFC in 2016 after amassing an impressive 9-1 record fighting under promotions like Island Fights, Titan FC, and FFI. Sherman went 2-5 in his first tour of duty with the UFC and was released. He rejoined Island Fights, won three consecutive bouts, and then went to fight for Bare Knuckle FC. After losing the BKFC belt, he was signed by the UFC in 2020 but after knocking out Ike Villanueva in his first bout back, he’s dropped three straight fights.
Having the plus money sign written next to his name isn’t new for Sherman, who has been betting favorite in only three of 11 Octagon appearances. However, his opening odds against Romanov are the longest of his career. Sherman’s current odds against Romanov are at the +700 to +850 range, also his longest ever.
