Sportsbooks Favor Andrea Lee to Beat Vivianne Araujo at UFC on ESPN 36

Andrea Lee has opened as the slight betting favorite against Vivianne Araujo in a battle of top flyweight contenders at UFC on ESPN 36.

According to the top UFC betting sites, Lee is the -145 favorite while Araujo is the +125 underdog in their three-round bout on May 14th.

The event will be headlined by a light heavyweight showdown between former champion Jan Blachowicz and Alexandar Rakic.

Andrea Lee Stops Cynthia Calvillo

Lee heads to this bout against Araujo riding back-to-back victories including a second round stoppage of Cynthia Calvillo in her most recent bout at UFC Vegas 42 last November 2021 which earned her her first post-fight bonus for Performance of the Night. Prior to the wins, Lee had lost three consecutive bouts, including two via split decision.

The 33-year-old from Atlanta, Texas is a former amateur kickboxing champion who also won the women’s flyweight titles at Legacy FC and LFA. Lee joined the UFC in 2018 and won her first three Octagon assignments before hitting a snag with three consecutive losses. She has a record of 13-5 with thee knockouts and five wins via submission.

This marks the first time in her last three bouts that Lee has seen the minus money sign placed next to her name. “KGB” was the slight +104 betting underdog when she fought Antonina Shevchenko and was also the +110 bottom dog against Calvillo. She won both fights via stoppage.

Chookagian Wins Unanimous Decision Over Viviane Araujo

Araujo lost via unanimous decision to Katlyn Chookagian in her most recent outing at UFC 262 last May 15, 2021. The defeat snapped a two-fight winning streak for the 35-year-old Brazilian who had beaten Montana De La Rosa and Roxanne Modafferi in her previous two outings.

A former Pancrase women’s strawweight champion, Araujo began her career in Brazil, fighting for promotions such as Federal Gladiators Combat, Iron Fight Combat, and Jungle Fight before heading to Japan. After winning the Pancrase title, she joined the UFC in 2019 and picked up consecutive wins over Talita Bernardo and Alexis Davis. Araujo has a record of 10-3 with three knockouts and four submission victories.

The Brazilian will be the betting underdog for only the third time in her UFC career. Araujo closed at +245 odds during her UFC debut against Bernardo and she was listed at +115 odds when she entered the cage against Chookagian in her most recent bout. Araujo also opened as the +145 underdog against Alex Grasso at UFC 272 but she withdrew from the bout after suffering an undisclosed injury while training.
