The Houston Astros are the first team through to the World Series after defeating the Boston Red Sox 5-0 in Game 6 of the 2021 ALCS on Friday night.
Luis Garcia was light out as the Astros’ rookie pitched 5.2 scoreless innings where he allowed just one run and had seven strikeouts. Meanwhile, Kyle Tucker’s three-run home run in the 8th gave Houston the cushion it needed to advance to their third World Series in the last five years.

The Astros are the first American League team since the New York Yankees in 1999-2003 to make three World Series appearances during a five-year span. Houston accomplished the feat by outscoring the Red Sox 23-3 over the last three games of the ALCS. The only other team in MLB history to outscore their opponent by at least 20 runs over the last three games of the ALCS was well, Boston in 2007 against Cleveland.
Yordan Alvarez was named ALCS MVP after going 12 for 23 with one home run, one triple, three doubles, seven runs, and six RBIs. His batting average of .522 is the highest in ALCS history. Alvarez single-handedly out-hit the Red Sox 7-5 over the last two games of the ALCS, becoming the first player in MLB history to outhit and an entire team over the last two games of any series in MLB postseason history.
Manager Dusty Baker also won his second pennant 18 years after his first win with the San Francisco Giants in 2002. The gap between Baker’s two pennant wins is the second-longest any manager in MLB history with only Bucky Harris 21 seasons between two World Series appearances longer.

Houston’s preseason odds to win the Pennant were the highest odds for a Pennant winner since 2015. At +1000 before the start of the season, only the Royals +1600 and Mets had longer preseason odds to win their League and actually won. The Astros went as high as +1000 during the season and were a +220 during the Wild Card round. Before the start of the 2021 ALCS, Houston moved to -150 to win the AL.
As far as their World Series odds are concerned, the Astros were a +2200 on opening day and they never went longer than that price. At the start of the playoffs, their odds shortened to +470. Before the start of the ALCS, Houston was a +220. They are now the -150 odds on favorite to win it all at the Caesars Sportsbook.
The Astros are also listed at -150 at PointsBet, SportsBetting.ag and MyBookie.ag. Their longest World Series odds are at -155 via BetMGM and Borgata Online. Houston is also listed at -152 to win the MLB championship via Bet365.
