Looking at the latest betting boards, it’s clear that Murray makes the Hawks better. In fact, the latest oddsmakers’ lines are saying that the Hawks might be a problem next season. So how does Murray improve the Hawks? Let us count the reasons.
Murray averaged more points per game than anyone on the Hawks’ roster except Trae Young. He also averaged more rebounds per outing than any Hawk except Clint Capela. Murray’s assists average is better than any player on the Hawks’ roster except Trae Young. He made more free throws than any Hawks player except Young and had more steals than anyone in the Atlanta team, including Young. Murray also had more triple-doubles last season than the entire Hawks team combined.
The Hawks made the Eastern Conference Finals two seasons ago. But after finishing 5th in the East during the 2021 campaign, they were just 9tth last season and needed the play-in tournament to make the playoffs where they were easily eliminated by the Miami Heat in the first round. But with the addition of Dejounte Murray, the Hawks will now have one of the best starting backcourts in the NBA. Let’s hope that translates to more wins this coming season.
