Scottie Scheffler Most Popular Bet at RBC Canadian Open

Canadian Open Scottie Scheffler Favorite

  • Scottie Scheffler is the betting favorite to win his Canadian debut at the St. George’s Golf and Country Club.
  • Scheffler is also the most popular bet to win the RBC Canadian Open with 9% of the tickets and 13% of the betting handle.
  • Justin Thomas and Rory McIlroy are tied with the second-best odds to win the tournament at +900.

The RBC Canadian Open returns to the PGA Tour schedule after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic with the world’s top golfer as the odds-on-favorite to win in his first appearance in the tournament.

Scheffler Makes his Canadian Debut This Week

Scheffler will be making his Canadian debut this week and will be doing so against a pretty strong field that includes five out of the Top 10 golfers in the Official World Golf Rankings.

Most recently, the world’s no. 1 golfer was the odds on favorite to win the PGA Championship and the Charles Schwab Tournament. However, Scheffler has been unable to add to his four victories this year, missing the cut at the PGA Championship and losing to Sam Burns in a playoff the last time out at the Charles Schwab tournament.

Despite those setbacks, Scheffler heads to the St. George’s Golf and Country Club with the shortest odds to win the RBC Canadian Open at +800. He is also the most popular bet to win the tournament with 9% of the total betting tickets and 13% of the total betting handle. That includes a $5,000 bet at +1000 odds with a potential win of $50,000.

Justin Thomas is Ready to Tee it Up

Fresh off winning the PGA Championship, world no. 6 Justin Thomas is ready to tee it up this week. Thomas enters the RBC Canadian Open tied with Rory McIlroy with the second shortest odds to win the tournament at +900. JT currently has 6% of the total betting tickets and 5% of the total betting handle, ranking 4th and 5th in both categories, respectively.

McIlroy, who won this tournament the last time it was held two years ago before the COVID-19 pandemic, is the second most heavily-bet golfer with 10% of the total money and 3rd with 7% of the total betting slips written. McIlroy has generated the most bets of $1,000 or higher with four. Only Matt Fitzpatrick, Adam Hadwin, and Chris Kirk are the other golfers in the field who have multiple $,1000 bets.

Cameron Smith is next with his 12/1 odds. He is followed by Sam Burns at 14/1 and Fitzpatrick at 16/1. Fitzpatrick, who opened at 18/1 odds is the third most-bet golfer as far as dollars are concerned with 9%. He, however, is only 8th in betting slips with 4%. A bettor from Nevada wagered $3,000 on Fitzpatrick at 12/1 odds via Caesars. That bet would win $36,000. The biggest potential payout is a $2,500 bet on Adam Hadwin at 40/1 odds to win $100,000.
