Bettors are optimistic about the Detroit Lions in the upcoming NFL season.
One week ago, online sportsbook BetOnline tweeted that 98% of the Lions’ win total action is on the OVER. On Tuesday, Caesars Sportsbook’s Max Meyer also reported that the Lions have the most lopsided NFL win total OVER action with 96.5% wagered on the OVER 6 wins. But not only are punters betting on the Lions to beat the odds, but they are also favoring the Lions’ personalities to win an individual award.
According to BetMGM, Lions Head coach Dan Campbell is the most popular bet to win the 2022 NFL Coach of the Year award while rookie Aidan Hutchinson is the most popular bet to win the 2022 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award.

Last May, Caesars Sportsbook reported that Campbell was receiving massive betting action to win Coach of the Year at their sportsbook. According to Caesars, Campbell had nearly triple the tickets and double the money to win the award.
The heavy betting action caused Campbell’s odds to move from 60/1 to 25/1 in a week. The sportsbook has not given a recent update on its 2022 NFL Coach of the Year betting action but with Campbell’s odds currently down to +1500, there must be significant action that caused the odds to move.
Meanwhile, BetMGM gave an update on its 2022 NFL Coach of the Year betting market. Per BetMGM, Campbell has 30.7% of the total betting tickets and 33.0% of the total betting handle. He is also the biggest liability at that betting site. Campbell is currently co-favorites with Brian Daboll to win the award at BetMGM with odds of +1200.

Meanwhile, two days after the Lions picked Aidan Hutchinson with the 2nd overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, the former Michigan defensive end opened as the +400 betting favorite to win the 2022 NFL Defensive Player of the Year award with 5th overall pick Kayvon Thibodeaux of the New York Giants a close second to him at +450 odds at the DraftKings Sportsbook. Right now, the same sportsbook has Hutchinson at +500 and Thibodeaux also at +500.
Meanwhile, Hutchinson’s Defensive Rookie of the Year odds has shortened to +350 via Caesars Sportsbook with Thibodeaux chasing him at +400 odds. According to early betting data from the said betting site, Hutchinson is also the most popular bet to win the award with 45.3% of the betting slips and 44.4% of the total dollars wagered in the betting market. Accordingly, Hutchinson is also the biggest liability to win the award at Caesars.
While Hutchinson’s percentages are relatively high, they are not surprising. Of the last six winners of the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year award, five have come from Big 10 schools with four being pass rushers – Joey Bosa in 2016, Nick Bosa in 2019, Chase Young in 2020, and Micah Parsons in 2021.
