Boston Celtics New Betting Favorites to Win Eastern Conference

Boston Celtics Vs Nets Eastern Conference Background

  • The Boston Celtics are the new odds on favorite to win the Eastern Conference.
  • Boston defeated Brooklyn 109-103 last Saturday to take a 3-0 lead in their Best-of-Seven first round playoff series.
  • The Celtics have also moved up as second favorites to win the 2022 NBA championship behind the Golden State Warriors.

The Boston Celtics are just one win away from sweeping the preseason NBA title favorites Brooklyn Nets in the first round of the 2022 NBA playoffs.

Boston held Brooklyn to its lowest scoring output of the series and beat them 109-103 on Saturday night to take a 3-0 series lead. No team in the history of the NBA playoffs has ever come back from a 0-3 deficit to win the series. Surely, the Nets have the firepower and star power to become the first, but with the way the Celtics are playing, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving look like they’re joining the Los Angeles Lakers as spectators in the second round of the playoffs.

Celtics Now Favored to Win Eastern Conference

With Saturday’s win, the Celtics have risen to the top of the Eastern Conference odds boards at the best NBA betting sites and are now the odds on favorite to win the conference at +190 via Caesars Sportsbook or nearly slicing to half their +340 odds right before the start of the postseason. Boston opened with the 6th best odds to win the East at +2000 last August.

The defending East and NBA champions Milwaukee Bucks are second in the Eastern Conference odds boards at +300 while the current Eastern Conference number 1 seed Miami Heat are third with their +325 price. Meanwhile, the Philadelphia 76ers come in fourth at +450 while the Brooklyn Nets who opened as the -140 betting favorites to win the East last August 4, 2021, are now down to +3000 odds.

Boston has also moved to second in the NBA championship betting boards behind the Golden State Warriors. The Celtics are listed at +360 via Caesars, behind Golden State’s +300 and ahead of Phoenix’s +400. They are also at +360 via BetMGM with the Warriors are +280 and the Suns at +450. At PointsBet USA, the Celtics are tied with the Suns at +350 behind the Warriors at +300.

Tatum Dominant Against the Nets

The main reason for Boston’s early postseason success is superstar forward Jayson Tatum who has been dominant against the Nets. Tatum has averaged 30/8/5 in the series and has shot 50% during the fourth quarter. In Game 3, Tatum had his best game of the series, putting up 39 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, and a career-high 6 steals.

But while Tatum’s ability to get the job done on offense isn’t really surprising at all since he finished the regular season as the 7th best scorer in the league, his defense has been incredible. In 251 Nets possessions which he guarded, Brooklyn has been held to 26 points on 15/35 shooting with 15 forced turnovers, three blocks, and seven steals. People talk about KD being cold in the series when actually it’s Tatum literally locking him down.

He has guarded Kevin Durant in a total of 120.9 possessions in the series in a total of 27:09 of game action. During that span, KD shot just 2-15 from the field (13.3%) while scoring only 10 points with 10 turnovers and getting two shots blocked. Tatum committed only two shooting fouls during that remarkable defensive stretch. With KD struggling against Tatum’s defense, the Nets have looked helpless so far.
