Sportsbooks are favoring Brandon Moreno to win the UFC flyweight belt again.

The best UFC betting sites have opened Moreno as the betting favorite in an interim UFC flyweight title bout against Kai Kara-France at UFC 277.

According to the oddsmakers, Moreno is the -160 betting favorite to beat Kara-France who is currently listed at +140 odds. The Assassin Baby closed as the +144 betting underdog when the two first fought at UFC 245 in December 2019. In that bout, Kara-France indeed the Octagon as the -164 betting favorite but lost to Moreno via unanimous decision. A lot has happened since then.

1-1-1 After Three Fights

Moreno is coming off three consecutive bouts against Brazilian Deiveson Figueiredo with all three fights for the UFC flyweight title. After three meetings, the two flyweight superstars are 1-1-1 with their first and third bouts earning Fight of the Night honors.

However, because Moreno lost their most recent meeting at UFC 270 last January 22, Figueredo is now champion again and Moreno the no. 1 contender. However, with Figueiredo unsure about staying in the division and in no hurry to fight, the UFC has created an interim title bout between Moreno and Kai Kara-France so that the belt will not be held hostaged.

The Assassin Baby enters this interim title bout with a record of 19-6 with three knockouts and 11 submission victories. This will only be the third time in Moreno’s last seven bouts that he has opened as the betting favorite. The Mexican-American fighter was the -200 betting favorite against Figueiredo at UFC 270 but he ended up losing the bout on points.

Kai-Kara France Upsets Askar Askarov

Meanwhile, Kai Kara-France continues his ascent on the UFC flyweight ladder. The 29-year-old New Zealander has won four out of five bouts since losing to Moreno at UFC 245, including his last three. In his last UFC bout, Kara-France pulled off a massive upset as the +350 betting underdog against the previously unbeaten Askar Askarov at UFC on ESPN 33.

One fight earlier, Kara-France also recorded a first-round TKO win over former bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt at UFC 269 on December 11, 2021, in a fight where he was the +130 bottom dog. The former KOZ flyweight champion in Australia is 7-2 since joining the UFC with his other loss being a submission setback against Brandon Royval at UFC 253.

Overall, Kara-France has a record of 24-9 with 11 knockouts and three wins via submission. He also owns wins over Rogerio Bontorin, Tyson Nam, Raulian Paiva, and Mark de la Rosa. This marks only the third time in Kara-France has opened as the betting underdog in a UFC bout.
