With the NBA’s regular season about to close, betting for the next NBA champions is heating up.
According to the best NBA betting sites, the Brooklyn Nets are the most popular bet to win the NBA championship this season but their biggest liability is on the Denver Nuggets.
Nets are Most Popular Bet
Brooklyn entered the season as a -900 odds on favorite to win the title but after acquiring 2018 MVP James Harden in a trade last January, the Nets have zoomed to the top off the oddsboards. Latest betting odds at BetOnline say that Brooklyn is the +200 odds on favorite to win the chip while the defending champions Lakers are second at +450:

Los Angeles Lakers +450
Los Angeles Clippers +550
Utah Jazz +700
Philadelphia 76ers +850

At BetMGM, the Nets are at +230 and have received 19.3% of the bets and 29.8% of the money wagered at MGM’s online sportsbook. Last March, William Hill US reported a $100K bet on Brooklyn at +250 two win the title.
The Nets currently have the second best record in the Eastern Conference, 2.5 games behind the Philadelphia 76ers with four regular season games left to play for them. Brooklyn is just 5-5 in their last 10 games played and lost four in a row before beating the Nuggets last Saturday.
James Harden sill has to return to action and the Nets trio of Harden, Kevin Durant, and Kyrie Irving have played in a total of seven games together. Despite that, the oddsmakers believe that their start power and basketball IQ would be enough to put together a championship run in the upcoming playoffs.
Still Have the Second Shortest Odds

The defending NBA champions Lakers have dropped all the way down to 7th place and are in danger of entering the play-in tournament. Despite that, the Purple and Gold still have the second shortest odds to win the NBA title at +450 at the BetOnline App and +500 at BetMGM.
According to BetMGM, the Lakers have the second most championship bets placed on them at 19.3%. They also have the second-most money wagered on them at 21.6% at the same online bookmaker.
Los Angeles was in a battle for the third spot in the West when Davis went down with an Achilles injury last February. Since then, they have tumbled in the team standings and are now in real danger of having to win a game in the play-in tournament before earning a playoff spot. Despite that, the bookies are still confident that they can put their act together in the playoffs when both LBJ and AD are healthy.
Nuggets Are the Biggest Liability
Nuggets are winning games without Murray, Barton, and Morris while adding Austin Rivers and Shaq Harrison to the rotation…. that’s sign of a good coaching staff and culture. Jokic is MVP. pic.twitter.com/CdRlJDm2UG

The Nuggets opened the year at +2000 then went as short as +1600 after acquiring Aaron Gordon at the trade deadline and winning their first eight games with him. However, after Jamal Murray suffered a season-ending Achilles injury, Denver tumbled to as long as +3200. Right now, the Nuggets are at +2500 at BetMGM and +2800 at SportsBetting.ag and are currently the biggest liability for BetMGM.
The Nuggets have 10.5% of the entire betting money at BetMGM with only the Nets and the Lakers having more money wagered on them at the said online sportsbook. With Denver continuing to win even without Murray, they are considered one of the dark horses to win the 2021 NBA championship.
Denver is currently 4th in the Western Conference standings and could still move up to 3rd since they are just one game behind the L.A. Clippers in the team standings with still three regular season games to play for them. Nikola Jokic is the odds on favorite to win MVP honors while Michael Porter Jr. has stepped up big time in Murray’s absence.
