- Watson has been suspended for six games for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy.
- He will be eligible to play on October 23 when the Browns visit Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens.
There was significant movement in the Cleveland Browns’ futures odds on Monday after details of quarterback Deshaun Watson’s suspension were revealed.
Prior to Monday, the Browns’ futures odds across the betting boards were listed longer than they should have been because oddsmakers were anticipating that Watson would be suspended for a longer period of time, even for the entire 2022 season. But it turns out, Watson will be back sooner than expected, forcing the sportsbooks to react on Monday.
Six-Game Suspension for Watson

On Monday, disciplinary officer Sue L. Robinson ruled that Watson will be suspended for six games and will not be fined for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy. The violation stems from the 25 civil lawsuits accusing Watson of sexual assault. Watson has already settled 20 out of 24 cases with one dropped by a judge in 2021.
The NFL and the Players Association have until Thursday, 9 am ET to file a written appeal of Robinson’s ruling. It can be recalled that the NFL recommended that Watson be suspended for the entire 2022 regular season and postseason. But the ruling relied on the 32 previous suspensions handed out by the NFL since 2015. In 21 of those instances, the league suspended the player for six games.
Looking at the Browns’ schedule, Watson will miss his new team’s Week 1 game at the Carolina Panthers. He will also sit out their Week 2 home opener against the New York Jets. Watson will also not play in Cleveland’s Week 3 home stand against the Pittsburgh Steelers and their Week 4 visit to the Atlanta Falcons. He will also be not available for their Week 5 and Week 6 home outings versus the Los Angeles Chargers and New England Patriots, respectively. Given the quality of opposition that they will be facing during Watson’s absence, the Browns’ futures odds have improved after the latest development.
