Bryan Barberena is the slight betting favorite in an expected firefight against Robbie Lawler at UFC 276 on July 2nd.

Barberena is currently listed as the -150 betting favorite at the best UFC betting sites while Lawler came back as the +130 bottom dog when the betting odds for their three-round middleweight showdown were released earlier this week:

Matt Brown and Bryan Barberena Deliver a Barn Burner

Barberena earned arguably the biggest win of his MMA career against Matt Brown at UFC on ESPN 33 last March. Both fighters went tooth-and-nail over the course of three rounds to deliver an absolute barn burner which easily earned Fight of the Night honors. The win was Barberena’s third in his last four bouts and his second straight after beating Darian Weeks at UFC Vegas 44 last December 4, 2021.

The 33-year-old from Montclair, California began his MMA career fighting for promotions like Dakota FC, KOTC, and Cage Extreme Fighting. Barberena joined the UFC in 2014 and won three out of his first four UFC assignments before struggling with a 2-4 record from December 2016 to June 2019. Overall, he has a record of 17-8 with 10 knockouts and two submission victories.

This marks the sixth time in his last seven bouts where Barberena has opened as the betting underdog in a UFC bout. The only time he opened with the plus money sign next to his name was when he hit the betting boards at +130 in his last bout against Brown. However, Barberena’s -150 odds against Lawler is his longest opening odds as a betting favorite.

Robbie Lawler defeats Nick Diaz via 3rd Round TKO

Lawler ended a four-bout losing streak by knocking out Nick Diaz at UFC 266 last September 25, 2021, in a rematch 17 years in the making. Prior to beating Diaz, Lawler’s last win came against Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in 2017. After that bout, he lost to Rafael Dos Anjos. Ben Askren, Colby Covington, and Neil Magny in succession.

The 40-yea old from San Diego, California is a former Elite XC middleweight champion who also fought under PRIDE, Strikeforce, and IFL. Lawler won the UFC welterweight championship by defeating Johny Hendricks at UFC 181. He successfully defended the belt against Rory MacDonald and Carlos Condit before losing it to Woodley. Lawler has a record of 29-15 with 21 knockouts and one submission victory.

Ruthless will be the betting underdog for the fifth time in his last six bouts. Lawler was the betting underdog in every fight during his four-bout losing streak and was the -150 betting favorite when he fought Diaz the last time out. At +130 however, Lawler is at his second-shortest odds as the underdog in his last six bouts, after the +120 odds he opened with when he fought Magny in August 2020.
