Bryce Young Overtakes Spencer Rattler as Heisman Trophy Betting Favorite

The Heisman Trophy With Bryce Young

  • After week 1 of College Football action, Bryce Young is the new +500 odds on favorite to win the Heisman Trophy.
  • Spencer Rattler has dropped to second from +500 to +550.
  • Young set the school record with 4 touchdown passes in his first start for the Crimson Tide.

After a busy week 1 of College Football action, the best College Football betting sites were also busy updating the bettings odds for the different CFB betting markets.

The no. 5 Georgia Bulldogs were the biggest gainers in the CFB title odds as they moved from +600 to +475 at BetMGM following their win over Clemson. The Tigers meanwhile fell from +450 to +600 at the same online sportsbook. But the Crimson Tide also improved, though just slightly to +250 from +260 as the odds on favorite to repeat as champions.

But while ‘Bama remained as the odds on favorite to win the CFB National Title, the Heisman Trophy odds boards saw a new betting favorite.

Alabama quarterback Bryce Young has overtaken Oklahoma signal-caller Spencer Rattler as the odds on favorite to win the Heisman Trophy this season.

Heisman Odds Movement After Week 1

Young started Saturday at +900 but emerged as the new +500 betting favorite after the Crimson Tide obliterated the Miami Hurricanes  44-13 in their season opener. Rattler meanwhile went into the opening weekend as the Heisman Trophy frontrunner at +500 but after his Oklahoma Sooners barely beat the Tulane Green Wave 40-35 at home, he has dropped to second behind Young at +550 at the Las Vegas SuperBook and at +700 at BetMGM.

Following the top two favorites are Clemson’s DJ Uiagalelei at +1100, Georgia’s JT Daniels +1200, an Ohio State’s CJ Stroud +1400. Among the betting favorites, North Carolina’s Sam Howell had the biggest drop after a disappointing debut. Howell went from +1100 to +2500 at DraftKings after the Tar Heels were upset as +5.5 point betting favorites against the Virginia Tech Hokies.

At the Barstool Sportsbook, Young’s implied probability to win the Heisman Trophy moved up by 10% while Rattler saw his percentage drop by 4.2%. The other major winner in Week 1 was Stroud who also increased his probability by 2.4%. Howell meanwhile, dropped by only 2.8% according to Barstool Sportsbook’s Bets Trends Twitter account.

Bryce Young Went Off in His First Start

But the star of week 1 and the biggest winner in the odds boards was Alabama’s QB Young who went off in his first start for the Crimson Tide. Young started his CFB career as a starter with a dominant first half, going 19/27 for 201 yards and three touchdown passes, tying the school record for the most TDs in a QBs debut game set by Mac Jones and Joe Namath. Young would end up breaking that record with a fourth TD pass later in the game.

Aside from that his 94-yard score to Jameson Williams was the second-longest touchdown pass in Alabama school history with only A.J. McCarron’s 99-yard TD pass to Amari Cooper longer. But what was more impressive is that he needed only three quarters to set those records.

Young also finished with 344 passing yards on 27-38 passing, surpassing the debut totals of Mac Jones, Tua Tagovailoa, and Jalen Hurts. Jones passed for 249 yards with two TDs while Tagovailoa had 227 yards with two TDs including one rushing touchdown. Meanwhile, Hurts gained 287 passing yards with 2 TDs in his first start for the Crimson Tide.
