Canelo currently owns the WBC, WBA, and WBO super middleweight titles while Plant has the IBF belt, the fourth major boxing world title needed to become the undisputed champion. Alvarez began 2021 with the goal of becoming undisputed champion. He beat up Billie Joe Saunders on Cinco de Mayo weekend to win a third 168-pound belt.

The fight will take place on a PBC on Fox pay per view event after Alvarez was offered a one-fight deal with Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions. Per Coppinger, the deal would net Alvarez the highest guaranteed payday of his professional boxing career.
This will be the first time since September 2018 when he beat Gennady Golovkin in their HBO PPV rematch that Canelo won’t be fighting under DAZN. It can be recalled that Alvarez signed a contract with DAZN after HBO left the boxing business. But his record 11-fight deal with DAZN did not come close to being completed after Alvarez went to court against Golden Boy.
Canelo earned $35M in guaranteed money for three fights with DAZN and almost $40M in his rematch with Golovkin. After the contract was terminated, Alvarez became a promotional free agent. His last three fights were promoted by Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing but were still streamed via DAZN.
Canelo Heavily Favored Against Plant
🚨 Canelo/Plant odds are live 🚨
Canelo Alvarez -600
Caleb Plant +400

The betting lines for this bout opened last May when the plan was fist hatched and according to online sportsbook BetOnline, Alvarez was the heavy -600 odds on favorite to beat Plant who came back at +400. Two months later, the BetOnline App still has Alvarez as a huge -650 betting favorite while Plant is currently listed at +425.
Alvarez is considered as the no. 1 ranked pound-for-pound fighter on the planet. The Mexican has won world titles at 154, 160, 168, and 175 pounds. Since his controversial draw with Golovkin in 2018, he has gone undefeated in his last seven bouts, all world title fights, with four stoppage victories during that period.
Plant isn’t as popular as Alvarez but the American has an unbeaten record of 21-0 with 12 knockouts. However, Plant’s boxing resume pales in comparison to Alvarez’s and he lacks exposure against elite level fighters. The only former world champions in Plant’s victim list are Caleb Truax and Jose Uzcategui. Meanwhile, Alvarez has faced the best names in the sport and owns wins over the likes of Shane Mosley, Austin Trout , Erislandy Lara, Miguel Cotto, Golovkin, Daniel Jacobs, Sergey Kovalev, and Saunders.
