The Boston Celtics have opened as the betting favorites to eliminate the defending champions, Milwaukee Bucks, from the playoffs.

According to the best NBA betting sites, the 2nd seeded Celtics are the -165 favorites to beat the Bucks, who are currently listed at +135 odds.

Boston takes on Milwaukee in the second round of the 2022 NBA Eastern Conference semi-finals after dispatching their respective opening round assignments.

Celtics-Bucks in Round 2

The Celtics swept the 7th seeded Brooklyn Nets in their first-round series and became the first team to advance to the second round of the 2022 NBA playoffs. The defending NBA champions Bucks clinched a spot in the conference semifinals with a 4-1 rout of the Chicago Bulls and set up a seven-game showdown with the Celtics for the right to play in the 2022 Eastern Conference Finals.

Below is the series schedule:

Oddsmakers are also expecting a long series with the teams playing in a Game 6 or 7 having the shortest odds at +190 while the odds of seeing a sweep the longest at +650. As to the correct series score, the Celtics winning in 7 games is favored at +325 while Boston prevailing 4-1 or Milwaukee victorious at 4-2 are both listed at +400. The Celtics triumphant in six games is at +450 while the bucks winning in seven games is at +650.

The series props are almost similar to the prices during the Boston vs Brooklyn series. In that matchup, however, the Celtics swept the preseason title favorites in four games. Doing the same to the defending champions Bucks will not be an easy task but Boston enters the series not just with home-court advantage but with a personnel edge as well.

Middleton to Miss the Entire Series

The Bucks will be without All-Star forward and second-leading scorer Khris Middleton during the entire series. Middleton suffered a knee injury during Game 2 of their first round series against the Chicago Bulls. Milwaukee lost Game 2 but went on to win the next three games of the series without Middleton. However, the Celtics are not the Bulls, and Boston is the only undefeated team in the current postseason.

Game 1 of the series will be on Sunday, May 1 at the TD Garden in Boson at 1:00 in the afternoon. Right now, the Celtics are -4.5 points spread and -190 Moneyline favorites to beat the Bucks according to the BetOnline App, marking the first time in the 2022 playoffs where Milwaukee has seen the plus money sign next to their name.

These two teams split their four regular season meetings this campaign with Boston winning the two games in Milwaukee and the Bucks emerging victorious in the two games played at the TD Garden. Middleton averaged 19.5 points in the two games that the Bucks won so his presence will be sorely missed in the series.
