Celtics’ Title Odd Improve to +1600 With Stunning In-Season Turnaround

Boston Celtics The Odds Background NBA Championship

  • The Boston Celtics title odds have moved from +6600 last February 1st to +1600 in the latest betting boards at the best NBA sportsbooks.
  • Boston has won 14 out of its last 16 games played and is 21-6 since losing to the Knicks on January 6th.
  • The Celtics have the best defensive rating in the NBA and have the league’s third-best scoring defense this season.

Don’t look now but the Boston Celtics are just a couple of games away from holding one of the Eastern Conference’s Top 4 seeds.

The Celtics have climbed back all the way from being three games below the .500 mark in early January to the 5th seed in the East after the conclusion of Monday’s games. Boston’s surge has also seen their title odds improve from longshots to the Top 10 in the latest championship betting boards at the best NBA betting sites.

Energy is About to Shift

Last February 1st, Celtics forward Jaylen Brown tweeted that “ the energy is about to shift” and true enough since that Tweet, the Celtics won 13 of their next 15 games including 10 straight wins over teams in playoff position. Add Sunday’s win over the Brooklyn Nets and that’s 14 wins in their last 16 games and if you consider the Nets a playoff team, that’s also 11 wins against potential playoff teams during that span.

During this span, the Celtics have the best defensive rating in the NBA, the best FG% defense in the entire league, the best point differential in the Eastern Conference, and the best point differential among all NBA teams in 2022. They are 10-2 SU against .500 teams and 4-1 SU against the top seeds of both Conferences.

It’s hard to imagine that the Celtics were 18-21 after losing to the New York Knicks 108-105 last January 6th. Since that loss, Boston has won 21 out of their last 27 games played. They are now in 5th place in the Eastern Conference with a 39-27 SU record and are just two games behind the second-seeded Philadelphia 76ers. No question, it’s one of the best in-season turnarounds we’ve witnessed in recent memory.

Celtics Championship Odds Move Up

With their remarkable transformation, the Celtics’ championship odds have moved from a longshot +6600 on February 1st to +1800 at the start of the current month. Following their win over the Nets last Sunday, the Celtics’ odds improved further to +1600 or tied with the Utah Jazz for the 7th best odd to win the NBA title at +700.

Right now, only the Suns (+450), Warriors (450) Bucks (+600), Nets (+650), and Sixers (+650) have better odds than the Celtics. Among those teams, only the Warriors (5th), Sixers (6th), and Suns (7th) are better than them in defense. For the season, the Celtics have the third-best scoring defense in the league and the best defensive rating in the entire NBA.

Boston also has the best record in the league since January 29th and they continue to roll. After suffering an upset loss to the Indiana Pacers, the Celtics have beaten the Atlanta Hawks, Memphis Grizzlies, and Nets in succession. Their next game is against the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday night. Boston is currently a four-point road favorite to beat Charlotte. If they win, and the red-hot Pistons upset the slumping Bulls, the Celtics could be the 4th seed before this week is over.
