Celtics Win Atlantic Division Title After Live Odds Dropped to as Low as +3500

Celtics Vs Grizzlies NBA Green Background

  • The Boston Celtics won the Atlantic Division title after going as long as +3500 to win the division last January 25th.
  • Boston also clinched the second seed in the East after finishing with a 51-31 SU record.
  • The Celtics have the 5th shortest odds to win the 2022 NBA title at +900 to +1000, depending on which of the top sportsbooks you are using.

The Boston Celtics had one of the most remarkable turnarounds in NBA history. After struggling to go over the .500 mark in early January, the Celtics went on an impressive run that saw them finish as the second seed in the Eastern Conference, their highest finish since the 2017-18 season.

Boston also won the Atlantic Division for the first time since the 2016-17 campaign, doing so in dramatic fashion.

Celtics Were as Long as +3500 to Win the Division

At WynnBet a bettor from New Jersey placed a $400 bet on the Celtics to win the Atlantic Division and went home with a $13,400 payout. Caesars Sportsbook also reported that a bettor in New York wagered $500 on Boston to win the Atlantic Division at +3500 odds last January 25th when the Celtics had a record of 25-24 SU. Following Boston’s dramatic 2022 turnaround, that bet cashed $17,500 on Sunday.

On January 7, 2022, the Celtics were 18-21 and were 5th in the Atlantic Division and 11th in the Eastern Conference team standings. After Jaylen Brown tweeted “The energy is about to shift” on January 31st, the Celtics won 13 out of their next 15 games, including 10 against playoff-bound teams. Boston kept winning and lost just 5 of 28 games since that Tweet. Finally, they ended the regular season with 28 wins in their last 35 games, the best record in the league during that stretch.

Because of their strong finish, the Celtics didn’t just win the Atlantic Division but they have also clinched the second seed in the Eastern Conference with their 51-31 SU record. By doing so, Boston is assured of having homecourt advantage during the first two rounds of the 2022 NBA Playoffs. With the Celtics owning the second-best home court record in the East at 28-13 SU, getting to the second seed was a big accomplishment for Boston.

Boston Will Open the Playoffs at Home one Sunday

Boston will now await the winner of the game between the Brooklyn Nets and Cleveland Cavaliers. The Nets host the Cavs on Tuesday night as -8.5 point spread and -400 betting favorites. Whoever wins that game will travel to Beantown on Sunday to open their Best-of-Seven first-round playoff series at the TD Garden in Boston.

The Celtics won their regular-season series against the Nets 3-1, winning their last three head-to-head meetings by an aggregate margin of 64 points. Meanwhile, Boston also defeated Cleveland 2-1 in their regular season head-to-head matchup this season, winning their final two meetings by an aggregate margin of 16 points. If Boston wins its first-round series, things won’t get any easier in round two when they host the winner between the no. 3 Milwaukee Bucks and no. 6 Chicago Bulls. Should Boston get past that round, an Eastern Conference championship matchup against the no.1 Miami Heat could be waiting in the wings.

Boston currently has the third-shortest odds to win the Eastern Conference, behind only the Milwaukee Bucks and Brooklyn Nets. Interestingly, they will have to eliminate Brooklyn and Milwaukee by themselves in the first two rounds of the playoffs to emerge as East favorites. The Celtics also have the fifth-shortest odds to win the 2022 NBA title with the Celtics floating around the +1000 to +900 range, depending on which of the top NBA betting sites you are looking at.
