With their victory on Friday night, Chicago took a 2-1 series lead and are now just one win away from winning their first WNBA championship and becoming the 10th franchise to win the WNBA title. The Sky left no doubt in Game 3 as they dominated the Mercury from start to finish en route to an 86-50 win, in the most lopsided WNBA championship game ever.
Every player on the Chicago side scored in Game 3 with Kahleah Cooper leading the way with 22 points. Courtney Vandersloot had 10 assists to pass Sue Bird for the most double-digit games in WNBA playoff history with 10. Vandersloot has also recorded a WNBA postseason record of 87 assists this season.
The Chicago defense shut down Brittney Griner to only four first half points on 1-8 shooting after she torched the Sky for 29 points during the Mercury’s overtime win in Game 2. Diana Taurasi was also held down to only five points on 5-10 shooting. Griner finished the game with 16 points but was unable to lead Phoenix to a second consecutive victory.

With the Game 3 win, the Sky can now clinch their first WNBA title on Sunday. Game 4 of the 2021 WNBA Finals is set for 3:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Sky’s Wintrust Arena. As of this writing, only online sportsbook 22Bet has opened the betting lines for Game 4 and they currently have the Sky as the -169 betting favorite to win the game and clinch the title.
The Sky played their best game of the season in perhaps the most crucial game of the series. Game 3 was the first WNBA title game in Chicago since the Sky made it to the WNBA championship round in 2014.
Meanwhile, the Mercury are currently listed at +128 for Game 3. Phoenix was just a three-point betting underdog in Game 3 but they ended up losing by 36 points, the largest margin of defeat ever seen in the history of the WNBA Finals. Given that they scored only 50 points in Game 3, it is expected that Griner and Taurasi are going to bounce back with a strong offensive performance to help extend the series to a deciding Game 5 in Phoenix.
