Mahomes is expected to miss most of the offseason work with the team but is expected to make a full recovery before the start of training camp.
One of Mahomes’ Worst Defeats Ever
— Around The NFL (@AroundTheNFL) February 8, 2021
Mahomes suffered one of his worst beatings in a long time as the Chiefs lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Super Bowl LV. The 2018 NFL MVP completed only 26 out of 49 passes for 270 yards with zero touchdowns and two interceptions. Mahomes had a passer rating of 52.3 while the Chiefs failed to score a touchdown for the first time since Mahomes became its starter in 2018.
Despite his poor showing, Mahomes refused to blame Sunday’s defeat on his toe injury. According to Chiefs’ QB, he played well with it two weeks ago in their win against the Buffalo Bills in the AFC title game. Mahomes added that one has to battle with injuries when playing this game.
Save for their Super Bowl loss, 2020 was still a very productive season for Mahomes. He finished the season with 4,740 passing yards with 38 touchdowns despite siting out the Chiefs’ Week 17 game against the Los Angeles Chargers due to rest. Mahomes was named as one of the finalists fort he 2020 MVP award which was won by Aaron Rodgers.

It’s hard to imagine that after the kind of performance they delivered last Sunday, people would think that Kansas City will win it all next season. But that’s exactly what the sportsbooks are saying right now.
According to the top NFL betting sites, the Chiefs are the early betting favorites to win the next NFL championship. Online sportsbook SportsBetting.ag is currently listing Kansas City as the +275 odds on favorite to top the AFC and the +500 betting favorites to win Super Bowl LVI.
Having Mahomes 100% healthy will be the key to the Chiefs’ success and him fixing his toe during the offseason is the path to doing that. Although the Chiefs suffered a bump in their quest for greatness, a healthy and more motivated Mahomes will make them a more deadlier team next season.
