Deiveson Figueredo to Rematch Brandon Moreno at UFC 263 on June 12th

Figueiredo Vs Moreno Rematch

  • Deiveson Figueiredo will defend the UFC flyweight title against Brandon Moreno again at UFC 263 on June 12th.
  • The two fought to an exciting majority draw at UFC 256 last December that left everyone hanging.
  • Figueiredo has opened as the -235 betting favorite in the rematch with Moreno coming back at +200.

The expected rematch between UFC flyweight Deiveson Figueiredo and no. 1 contender Brandon Moreno will happen on June 12th.

According to a report from ESPN, sources revealed that that Figueiredo vs Moreno 2 is headed to UFC 263 which still has no venue or main event.

Figueiredo and Moreno fought to an exciting majority draw at UFC 256 last December, in one of the best fights of 2020. The draw left everyone hanging, including UFC President Dana White who said immediately after the bout that a rematch must happen in 2021.

Winning the UFC Flyweight Title

Figueiredo put Joseph Benavidez to sleep at UFC Fight Island 2 to win the vacant UFC flyweight championship. The Brazilian had beaten Benavidez five months earlier but failed to win the belt because he missed weight. A rematch was set and Figueiredo finally won the gold last July.

Figgy successfully defended the title with a first-round submission win over Alex Perez at UFC 255 last November 21, 2020. During that November event, top contender Brandon Moreno also scored a first round TKO win over Brandon Royval. Following their victories Figueiredo and Moreno agreed to fight each other during the promotion’s next numbered event, making Figueiredo the first fighter in UFC history to headline back to back numbered events.

The two stole the show at UFC 256 when they fought in a back and forth war that ended in a majority draw and earned Fight of the Night honors. Both fighters had their moments during the bout but it was Moreno who impressed more after taking it to the champion and absorbing every punishment Figueiredo unleashed.

Figgy is Favorite

Figueiredo had looked unstoppable during his run to the flyweight title. His exciting fighting style saved a division that was headed to extinction after the UFC traded Demetrious Johnson to ONE FC. He dominated Joseph Benavidez twice and made easy work of Pantoja, Tim Elliott, and Alex Perez. But Moreno pushed him to the limit.

The Assassin Baby is 6-2-2 overall inside the UFC Octagon. However, he is undefeated in five bouts during his second tour of duty with the promotion. The 27-year old Mexican was cut by the UFC in 2018 after suffering back to back losses to Sergio Pettis and Alexandre Pantoja. He went to the LFA, won the organization’s flyweight bout in his second appearance and made a return to the Octagon.

Despite Moreno’s valiant effort, oddsmakers still consider him as a sizeable betting underdog in the rematch. As soon as new of the fight booking was revealed, the best UFC betting sites started putting up their betting lines for the rematch and according to the BetOnline app, Moreno is a +200 underdog while Figgy opened as the -235 odds on favorite. These are almost the same odds when they climbed into the cage last December. But hopefully, they’ll settle the score this time around.
