Nikola Jokic further solidified his billing as the odds on favorite to win the 2021 NBA MVP award after another monster game against the Clippers. The Joker scored 30 points, grabbed 14 rebounds, issued seven assists while blocking one shot in 33 minutes of action on Saturday night. Jokic is averaging 26.3 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 10.9 assists per game in his last 10 games played.
Jokic got the much needed scoring support from the vastly improved Michael Porter Jr. who continued to step up with 25 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists in 37 minutes of action. Porter is averaging 25.5 points per game while shooting 48.3% from three-point distance since Murray’s injury. Likewise, Denver got a big lift from the promoted P.J. Dozier who had 16 points and five rebounds.
Aside from missing Jamal Murray for the 10th consecutive game due to a season-ending ACL injury, the Nuggets were also without guards Monte Morris and Will Barton due to hamstring injuries. Morris and Barton combine to average 23 points this season. Despite their absence, Denver still managed to beat the Clippers 110-104 at Staples Center.

With only one loss in the 10 games Murray has missed so far, the Nuggets have overtaken the L.A. Clippers for third place in the Western Conference team standings. Denver ensured that by beating the Clippers 110-104 last Saturday night. Although the Nuggets have the slimmest of leads over the Clippers at 0.5 game, they are 9-1 in their last 10 games while the Clippers have dropped three straight games.
Among the Top 5 teams in the Western Conference team standings, the Nuggets have the best Last 10 games record. The best team in the league, the Phoenix Suns, are second at 7-3. Meanwhile, teams like the Jazz, Clippers, and Mavs have gone 6-4 in their last 10 games.
The best NBA betting sites still have seven teams ahead of the Nuggets in their championship odds boards. However, with the way Denver has responded to Jamal Murray’s injury, they look like they are locked in to better their Conference Finals-making performance at the Orlando bubble. With Jokic playing like the MVP and Michael Porter Jr. stepping up big-time, don’t count out these Nuggets yet.
