Warriors Open as Way Too Early 2023 NBA Championship Favorites

Gold Blooded Favorites 2023

  • The Golden State Warriors have opened as the 2023 NBA championship favorites.
  • Golden State will play the Boston Celtics in the 2022 NBA Finals beginning Thursday.
  • Boston opened with the third-best odds at +650, behind the Brooklyn Nets who are listed at +600.

The 2022 NBA champions have yet to be crowned but as early as three days before the start of the 2022 NBA Finals, the best NBA betting sites have already opened the betting odds for the 2023 NBA champions.

According to Caesars Sportsbook, the Golden State Warriors are the +400 odds on favorite to win the 2023 NBA title. Meanwhile, the Brooklyn Nets, who were ousted in the opening round of the playoffs by the Boston Celtics have the second-best odds at +600. Boston is third at +650.

The Dynasty is Back

After a two-year absence from the NBA playoffs, the Golden State Warriors are back where they belong – on top of the Western Conference. Golden State made five consecutive trips to the NBA Finals from 2015 to 2019 and won three titles before injuries to Steph Curry and Klay Thompson forced them to miss the postseason in the previous two campaigns. But with both Curry and Thompson finally healthy this year, the dynasty is back.

Golden State was among the early title favorites as they opened with +1200 odds to win the title. The Warriors were off to a strong start behind Steph Curry and after some mid-season struggles when Draymond Green got hurt, they finished the regular season as the third seed in the Western Conference. The Dubs entered the playoffs as a +1000 to win it all and those odds shrunk to +300 after the top-seeded Suns were eliminated in Round 2 and the Dubs were drubbing the second-seeded Grizzlies.

As the Conference Finals began, Golden State was firmly back as betting favorites at +120 odds. The Warriors easily disposed of the overachieving Mavericks, eliminating Luka Doncic and company in 5 games. Currently, the Warriors are the -160 favorites to beat the Boston Celtics in the 2022 NBA Finals which begin on Thursday. With an experienced core led by Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green plus a young cast composed of Jordan Poole, Andrew Wiggins, Jonathan Kuminga, and James Wiseman, there’s no doubt this team can replicate what they’ve done this season next year.

Revenge Completed

Interestingly, the team that the Warriors will face in the 2022 NBA Finals – the Boston Celtics, only have the third-best opening odds to win next season at +650. The Celtics had a mediocre start to their 2022 season but turned things around at the start of the year. Boston entered the playoffs as the East’s no. 2 seed and on their way to their first Finals appearance since 2010, the Celtics eliminated the three teams that sent them home in the previous three seasons.

The Brooklyn Nets, whom Boston swept in the first round of the 2022 playoffs have the second-best odds to win next season at +600. The Nets were the preseason and midseason favorites to win this year’s NBA title but they struggled to make the playoffs, needing the play-in tournament just to earn the 7th seed. There are rumors that Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant could be leaving Brooklyn this summer so it may not be wise to put some early money on the Nets.

The Phoenix Suns had the best record during the regular season and were the title favorites entering the playoffs. But just like last season, their playoff run ended in disappointment. The Milwaukee Bucks, who beat the Suns in the 2021 NBA Finals, were eliminated by the Celtics in a thrilling seven-game series. Both the Suns and Bucks open at +750 odds. Meanwhile, the L.A. Clippers who played without Kawhi Leonard the entire season and missed Paul George for a significant part are next at +850.
