  • Fans may end up seeing Urijah Faber return to the UFC at some point in 2022.

Nowadays, the lighter weight divisions in the UFC are some of the most popular in the sport. Many credit Urijah Faber for this fact. He was instrumental in bringing attention to the divisions below 155 pounds. It now appears that fans could see Urijah Faber return to the UFC at some point in the near future.

Faber is now 42 years old and is more than likely past his prime as a competitor. He still appears to be in fantastic shape, however, and may be able to find success against some of his fellow bantamweights. Now is a great time to talk about his possible return to the cage.

Here’s what you need to know!

The UFC’s Bantamweight Title is On the Line on October 30

The UFC’s world championship at 135 pounds has changed hands several times over the past few years. For a time, Dominick Cruz was the long-time champion of this weight class. Cody Garbrandt then won the belt before losing it to TJ Dillashaw.

Today, Aljamain Sterling is the champion at bantamweight. He won the title in one of the most unusual ways possible, though. Sterling competed with Petr Yan for the title back in March and ended up winning the belt after Yan hit him with an illegal knee on the ground in the fourth round.

Sterling underwent neck surgery shortly after this fight. The UFC doesn’t plan to let their new champion sit on the sidelines for too long, though. The promotion recently announced that Sterling vs. Yan 2 will be taking place on Fight Island on October 30.

Fans around the world are flocking to different online sports betting sites to make their wagers on this fight. It’s an extremely important bout for the division. In the meantime, many of the best fighters at 135 pounds are set to compete against one another.

That includes Jose Aldo and Pedro Munhoz, who are serving as the co-main event for UFC 265 this Saturday night. These men are two of the most exciting fighters in the bantamweight division. It wouldn’t be a shock to see the winner fighting for the title at some point in 2022.

It now appears that one of the UFC’s real legends is considering making a return to MMA. Here’s what we know about the rumors of Urijah Faber’s MMA return.

Here’s Why Some Fans are Expecting to See Urijah Faber Return to the UFC

There was a long time when Urijah Faber was considered the best bantamweight in all of MMA. He dominated during his time in the WEC as the champion. Surprisingly, he was never able to find that same level of success in the UFC.

That’s not to say Urijah couldn’t compete in the UFC. He earned many wins over some of the best fighters in the division. He simply could not manage to earn a world title, despite his many opportunities to do so.

After a loss to Petr Yan in 2019, Faber seemed to formally announce his retirement from mixed martial arts. It was a brutal loss and one of the only times Faber had been stopped in that fashion. Some have still wondered whether or not “The California Kid” was really done with his fighting career, though.

This week, reports surfaced claiming fans could soon see Urijah Faber return to the UFC. Urijah spoke to the media and claimed he is beginning to feel the desire to fight again. You can check out some of his comments below.

“If I was going to compete, I would need to get back into Rocky mode and it would take me a couple of months. I just dislocated my pinky unfortunately in practice. I don’t know how long that will take at this point, I can’t make a fist with it,” Faber said. “I’m not opposed to getting into a good old fistfight, fun, you get paid, part of your passion. Don’t count the idea out. I’ll have a sitdown with Sean Shelby and maybe Dana White to see if they think it’s a good idea to get back in there. But, I’m always game.”

It seems unlikely that Faber could win a world title at this stage in his career. He may still have some memorable fights inside the Octagon for fans, though. We’ll be sure to offer more updates on this situation over the next few weeks!

Is TJ Dillashaw Next in Line for the Bantamweight Title?

TJ Dillashaw won the UFC’s bantamweight championship for the first time back in May of 2014. He lost the title to Dominick Cruz, yet returned several years later and won the belt once again. Unfortunately, Dillashaw’s career in MMA was put on hold after he tested positive for EPO in 2019.

Dillashaw made his return to competition a couple of weeks ago against Cory Sandhagen. Sites like BetOnline listed TJ as a considerable underdog heading into this fight. Many analysts felt that Cory’s striking and consistency would help him get the victory.

TJ and Cory went to war for five rounds. In the end, Dillashaw was declared the winner via unanimous decision. It was a triumphant return for one of the most exciting fighters at 135 pounds. Many are now wondering if he is next in line for a shot at the title.

Obviously, Aljamain Sterling and Petr Yan will be fighting for the title this October. TJ will need to wait and see how this fight plays out before any decision can be made. If there is a clear winner to Sterling vs. Yan 2, it seems likely that Dillashaw will face them sometime in early 2022.

There are a huge number of world-class bantamweights competing right now. It’s anyone’s guess who will be the champion by this time next year. It’s a fun time to be a fan of the sport.
