Nets vs Celtics 1st Round

The next most definitive favorites in the first round of the 2022 NBA Playoffs are the Brooklyn Nets who opened at even money odds against the -125 odds of the Boston Celtics. Those odds have since moved to -140 for Boston and +115 for Brooklyn. The longer odds on Brooklyn have caused heavy betting on the Nets and as of the latest tally from BetMGM, Brooklyn has 63% of the total betting slips and 74% of the total money wagered in the series.

That’s not surprising because while the Celtics have been dominant on their way to clinching the 2nd seed in the Eastern Conference, the Nets opened the 2021-22 NBA campaign as the preseason betting favorites to win the 2022 NBA championship at every top NBA betting site. The Nets may have struggled during the regular season but with Kyrie Irving now able to play their home games, the Nets will be a tough out for any team in a seven-game playoff series.

The other matchup in the East ( before Friday’s play-in games ) features the no. 4 Philadelphia 76ers and no. 5 Toronto Raptors where the Sixers are slight -200 odds on favorites to beat the Raptors in the Series. With the plus money on their side (+165), the Raptors have accounted for 70% of the total bets but the Sixers own 80% of the total betting handle.

Doncic Could Sit Out Games 1 & 2

The Dallas Mavericks have caught a bad break entering the playoffs as superstar Luka Doncic could sit out both Games 1 & 2 of their first-round playoff series against the 5th seeded Utah Jazz. Right now Doncic is confirmed to be out for Game 1 and still probable for Game 2 but if he misses both games, the Jazz could be up 2-0 while heading home for Game 3.

Utah opened as a -115 betting favorite to beat the Mavs in the first round of the playoffs. But after it was confirmed that Doncic is out of Game 1 and possibly Game 2 as well, the Jazz’s odds swelled to -300. Utah has 63% of the total betting handle for the series while the Mavs have taken 79% of the total betting slips issued.

Meanwhile, the top-seeded Phoenix Suns will play the New Orleans Pelicans in the opening round of the playoffs after the 10th seeded Pelicans upset the 8th seeded L.A.Clippers. Meanwhile, the East’s top-seeded Miami Heat will take on the Atlanta Hawks in their own first-round series after the 9th seeded Hawks upset the 8th seeded Cavaliers.
