- The Dallas Mavericks are currently the +240 underdogs in their first round playoff series.
- Dallas is the only team with home court advantage in Round 1 that is currently a betting underdog in the sportsbooks.
- Game 1 of the series will be on Saturday noon in Dallas with the Mavs listed at +4 point spread betting underdogs.
The 2021-22 Dallas Mavericks won 50 games for the first time since the 2014-15 NBA season and their 52 victories this season are the team’s most since winning 57 games during their 2011 championship season. The current Mavs are also the first team since the 2011 title squad to open the 2022 Playoffs at home.
But despite having home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs, the 4th seeded Mavericks are currently betting underdogs to win their first round playoff series against the 5th seeded Utah Jazz.

The Mavs opened as betting favorites to win the series but after Luka Doncic suffered an injury in Dallas’ final regular season game, the odds flipped and the Jazz became the series favorites. According to the BetOnline App, the Mavericks are currently the +240 betting underdogs against the Jazz, who are the -285 favorites to advance to round 2.
Doncic sustained the injury when he landed awkwardly after elevating for a pass during the third quarter of the Mavs’ game against the San Antonio Spurs last Sunday.

An MRI later confirmed that Doncic suffered a left calf strain and although the team has not released a timetable for Luka’s return, the injury is a big blow for the Mavs who played so had to get home court advantage in the playoffs, only to see Doncic sit out at least Game 1 of the series in Dallas. Considering what we saw from the Mavs in last year’s playoffs, it’s going to be tough to win without Doncic.
In seven playoff games last season, Luka registered a usage rate of 39.1 percent which is the second-highest mark in the league during the last 25 postseasons. Doncic is also averaging 33.5 points per game in the playoffs, which is slightly better than Michael Jordan’s 33.4. If Doncic isn’t healthy, it’s hard to see the Mavs advancing.

With the uncertainty surrounding Doncic’s injury, the Mavs vs Jazz series is currently the only NBA first round playoff matchup without series props and NBA playoff special prop bets. Doncic has also fallen off the cliff in the Finals MVP betting market as he is listed at a longshot +3300 to win the award, Interestingly, Utah Jazz superstar guard Donovan Mitchell also has the same Finals MVP odds as Doncic.
Also due to Doncic’s injury, the Mavericks only have the 7th best odds to win the Western Conference at +1600. The 6th seeded Denver Nuggets have better odds to win the West at +1200 while the 8th seeded L.A. Clippers are also ranked higher at +1400. Meanwhile, the Mavericks only have the 11th best odds to win the 2022 NBA title at +330.
