Houston Astros New Betting Favorites to Win World Series

There’s a new betting favorite to win the 2021 World Series and it’s the Houston Astros:

The AL West winners Astros’ stock has risen after a strong start to their AL Division Series against the AL Central Division champions Chicago White Sox. Los Angeles meanwhile, wee blanked by the San Francisco Giants in Game 1 of the NLDS but bounced back with a strong win on Saturday.

Astros Take 2-0 Lead in ALDS

The Astros defeated the White Sox 9-4 to take a 2-0 lead in their ALDS and move to within one game of making their 5th AL Championship Series appearance. Houston has dominated the White Sox at their home field this season, winning all six meetings with a run differential of +29.

The Astros have posted an OPS of .850 and an ERA of 2.0 when playing at home against the White Sox. However, those numbers turn to .440 and 5.40, respectively when the two teams play in Chicago. The White Sox are 2-1 when hosting the Astros and Game 3 of the ALDS shifts to Chicago on Sunday where the White Sox are currently the -117 betting favorites.

Despite that, the Astros have taken command of the series. They opened as the -125 betting favorites at BetMGM to win the series. Those odds have now shortened to a massive -900. On the other hand, the White Sox entered the series as slight +125 underdogs. They are now an even larger bottom dog at +600 after Game 2.

Dodgers Respond in a Big Way in Game 2

After they were shut out by the San Francisco Giants in Game 1 of their NL Division Series and overtaken by the Astros in the World Series odds boards at the best MLB betting sites, the Los Angeles Dodgers responded in a big way in Game 2, beating the Giants by seven runs 9-2 on Saturday.

Los Angeles’ 6-7-8 hitters were 0-9 with five strikeouts in Game 1 as Cody Bellinger and AJ Pollock were swinging regardless of the ball’s flight. But they were 5-10 with with two walks and four RBI in Game 2. Bellinger struck out three times in Game 2 but his two-run double to left-center put the Dodgers up 4-1 and set the stage for the blow out win.

With the win, the Dodgers are the -175 betting favorite to win the series, and the Giants the +155 underdogs. Los Angeles is also the 2.20 betting favorite to win the NL Pennant with the Giants second at 4.25 and the Brewers at +4.75. However, the Astros have temporarily overtaken them in the World Series odds boards.
