The San Francisco 49ers entered the 2020 season as one of the early Super Bowl favorites in the best NFL betting sites. San Francisco was coming off a Super Bowl appearance and was returning a good number of starters on both sides of the field. It wasn’t long before disaster struck.

Superstar Defensive End and 2019 Defensive Rookie of the Year Nick Bosa succumbed to a torn ACL in week 2 of the season. That game against the Jets also saw QB Jimmy Garoppolo, Defensive Lineman Dee Ford, Defensive Tackle Solomon Thomas, and Running Back Raheem Mostert get hurt.

Bosa missed the entire season while Garoppolo and Mostert would end up missing extensive time. All-Pro tight end George Kittle also missed a significant period of time while wide receiver Deebo Samuel was also on the shelf for some. The long list of injury setbacks doomed San Francisco’s quest to return to the big dance. They finished the 2020 season with a 6-10 record and missed the playoffs.

The Niners had hoped 2021 would be a good year for them. However, it looks like the injury bug has not left San Francisco yet.

Injury Bug Strikes Again

During an organized team activity on Monday, the injury bug struck again as the 49ers lost two players to season-ending injuries. Offensive lineman Justin Skule suffered a torn ACL while safety Tarvarius Moore tore his Achilles in the same day. While both Skule and Moore are not established starters, the two played a key roles for the team during the past seasons.

Skule has appeared in 31 regular season games during the past two seasons with 12 starts at tackle and guard. He was supposed to compete with Shon Coleman for the swing tackle job in training camp before he was hurt.

Meanwhile, Moore appeared in all of the 48 games during the last three seasons, including 13 starts. He had 49 tackles, a forced fumble, and fumble recovery last season where he started 8 total games. Like Skule, Moore was expected to fight for a starting job this season with the 24-year old vying for the strong safety position.
