Jaguars Upset Colts, Ends Indianapolis’ Playoff Bid

Jaguars Football NFL Betting Background

  • The Jacksonville Jaguars upset the Indianapolis Colts 26-11on Sunday afternoon, ending the Colts’ playoff aspirations.
  • Jacksonville entered the game as a +14.5 points and +650 Moneyline underdog against Indianapolis.
  • With the Detroit Lions beating the Green Bay Packers, the Jaguars finish with the league’s worst record and will pick first in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Entering Sunday’s games, the Colts had not won in Jacksonville since 2014, losing five times in the Jaguars’ home field. Indianapolis also has one road loss against Jacksonville in a game played in London in 2016.

But with their season on the line in Week 18, and the Colts winning six of seven games before losing to the Raiders last week, there was no way the 2-14 SU Jaguars were going to keep that streak alive. Or so we thought.

The Jaguars entered Sunday’s game as +14.5 point underdogs at the spread line and a +650 at the Moneyline. All the Colts had to do was to prove the best NFL sportsbooks  right. Jacksonville had other plans.

Jaguars Have Beaten the Colts

Top draft pick Trevor Lawrence saved his best for last and had his best game of the season. Lawrence completed 23 of 32 passes for 223 yards with two touchdowns and zero interceptions, his first game with multiple passing touchdowns since the season opener.

The Jacksonville defense, which ranked in the bottom 10 in stopping the rush, held NFL rushing leader Jonathan Taylor to only 77 yards on 15 carries while forcing quarterback Carson Wentz to two turnovers which the Jacksonville offense converted to 10 points as the Jaguars stunned the Colts 26-11 and prevented Indianapolis from clinching a playoff spot.

With their season on the line, the Colts didn’t show up. Wentz completed 17 of 29 passes for 185 yards with a garbage-time touchdown, one interception, and a fumble. Indianapolis had two chances of making the playoffs and despite losing to the Raiders last week, they still had another chance on Sunday but blew it once again.

Perfect Ending to Season

Jacksonville was one of the worst teams in the league all season long. They opened with +12500 odds to win Super Bowl LVI. Those odds steadily rose to +50000, to +100000, +250000, and a season-longest +500000 before week 9. Jacksonville’s season win total was set at 6.5 but they entered Sunday with only two wins. Somehow, their season had a perfect ending.

Aside from beating the Colts and ending Indianapolis’ playoff hopes, the Jaguars also clinched the no. 1 overall pick of the 2022 NFL draft after the Detroit Lions defeated the Green Bay Packers 37-30 as +3.5 point spread and +140 Moneyline underdogs. With Detroit finishing with a better record than Jacksonville at 3-13-1 SU, the Jaguars will have the first crack at stud defensive players Aidan Hutchinson and Kayvon Thibodeaux who are the top two betting favorites to be picked first overall in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Finally, Sunday’s win also enabled the Jaguars’ diehard bettors to finish the season with a positive bankroll. Despite going 3-14 SU during the 2021-22 NFL season, a $100 bettor on Jacksonville’s Moneyline from Week 1 still finished with a $134 profit.
