- Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz has gone from +110 to +130 in his upcoming bout against Aleksandar Rakic.
- Rakic meanwhile has moved up from -130 to -150 in next weekend’s main event at the UFC APEX Facility in Las Vegas, Nevada.
- The two were supposed to fight last March 26th at UFC Columbus but Blachowicz withdrew after suffering an injury.
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz is a bigger underdog to Aleksandar Rakic now than he was when they were first originally booked to fight.
Blachowicz opened as the +110 underdog last December when the pair was originally scheduled to headline the UFC Columbus event last March 26th. The former champion withdrew from that booking with an injury and the bout was rescheduled for May 14th in Las Vegas.
On Wednesday, the best UFC betting sites re-opened the odds for next weekend’s headliner and according to them, Blachowicz is now the +130 bottom dog with Rakic moving from -130 to -150 in the latest betting boards.
Glover Teixeira Taps Blachowicz
— MMA Junkie (@MMAJunkie) October 30, 2021
Blachowicz is looking to get right back in the mix to contend for the light heavyweight title. The Polish fighter lost the belt at UFC 267 last October when he was submitted by Glover Teixeira. The loss ended a stretch of five bouts where Blachowicz dominated his opposition, including current UFC middleweight Israel Adesanya who moved up to challenge him at UFC 259.
The 39-year-old Blachowicz is a former KSW light heavyweight champion who joined the UFC way back in 2014. He started his Octagon career with a modest 5-5 record before going on that five-bout stretch where he won three Performance of the Night bonuses. Blachowicz has a record of 28-9 with 8 knockouts and 9 wins via submission.
Being the betting underdog isn’t new to Blachowicz who saw the plus money sign written next to his name during his five-bout winning streak. The Polish Power was the +200 underdog when he beat Luke Rockhold, a +180 bottom dog when he defeated Corey Anderson, and a +210 when he won the belt against Dominick Reyes. Blachowicz was also a sizable +225 betting underdog against Adesanya.
Rakic Takes Decision Over Thiago Santos
— Front Page MMA (@FrontPageMMA) March 7, 2021
Rakic is coming off a unanimous decision win over Thiago Santos at UFC 259 last March 2021. In what was expected to be a firefight, Rakic and Santos combined to land a total of 85 significant strikes with Santos landing 27 of them in round three alone. Rakic called for a title shot after what he termed an “easy win”. However, Rakic’s underwhelming performance didn’t earn him a crack at the belt. Instead, it went to Teixeira who took it from Blachowicz.
The 30-year-old from Vienna, Austria began his career at promotions like Iron Fist, Final Fight Championship, and Austrian Fight Challenge. Rakic joined the UFC in 2017 and won his first four UFC bouts before he was stunned by Volkan Oezdemir in December 2019 for his first loss since his pro debut in 2011. Overall, Rakic has a record of 14-2 with 9 knockouts and one submission win.
Rakic has been the betting underdog only once in the UFC and that was when he fought Justin Ledet at even money odds in July 2018. Rakic won that bout via unanimous decision. His current -150 odds against Blachowicz however, is his longest opening odds as a betting favorite which indicates that he could be facing the toughest test of his UFC tenure next weekend.
