Sherman heads to this bout in dire need of a win as the Vanilla Gorilla has lost four consecutive bouts and 9 out of his 15 UFC bouts overall. In his most recent assignment, Alexander Romanov steamrolled past Sherman with a first-round submission win. Romanov entered that bout as the biggest betting favorite in UFC history at -2200.
The 32-year-old from D’Iberville, Mississippi is a former bare-knuckle boxer who was BKFC heavyweight and Police Gazette heavyweight champion. He fought under V3 Fights, Atlas Fights, Island Fights, and Titan FC before joining the UFC in 2016 and opened his career with a 6-5 record but has since lost his last four bouts.
Sherman has opened as the betting underdog in six out of his last 10 bouts and has closed as closed with the plus money sign next to his name in eight out of his last 10 fights. He was a massive underdog of +1200 in his last bout against Romanov.

Like Sherman, Jared Vanderaa is in need of a victory on July 9th. The 30-year-old from Richland, Washington has lost four out of his last five bouts including his last three. In his most recent Octagon appearance, Vanderaa lasted less than five minutes against Alexey Oleynik at UFC 273 last April 9th.
A former heavyweight champion at the Extreme Fighting Championship and Smash Global promotions, Vanderaa joined the Contender Series in 2020 where he knocked out Harry Hunsucker inside one round and earned his UFC contract. He hasn’t found success in the UFC, having lost four of five bouts and getting stopped in three of those losses.
This marks only the first time in his UFC career that Vanderaa has opened as the betting favorite. In his first five UFC bouts, Vanderaa has closed as a betting underdog only once, and that was during his last bout against Oleynik.
