  • The potential Jones vs Miocic heavyweight bout is gaining traction once again after UFC President Dana White hinted about making the fight happen this summer.
  • Jones has not fought since February 2020 while Miocic has not seen action since March 2021.

The best UFC sportsbooks have reopened the betting lines for a possible heavyweight showdown between former three-time UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and former two-time UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic.

According to online sportsbook BetOnline, Jones is the -200 betting favorite against Miocic, who came back at +170 odds when the lines reappeared late Monday.

Jones Bigger Betting Favorite Against Miocic

This isn’t the first time that the betting odds for a potential bout between Jones and Miocic have opened at the best UFC betting sites but it’s the shortest odds ever for Jones as far as fighting Miocic is concerned.

As early as the start of 2018 when Stipe was coming off a successful title defense against Francis Ngannou at UFC 220, the odds for a possible super-fight between Miocic and Jones was already being talked about. Even back then, BetOnline had Jones as the -180 betting favorite and Miocic the +155 underdog.

After the Pandemic stoppage, BetOnline listed Jones as the +135 betting favorite to be Miocic’s next opponent after he beat Daniel Cormier twice. During that period, Jones was still the -150 odds on favorite to beat Miocic who was listed at +130. But Miocic ended up facing Ngannou in a rematch at UFC 260 in March 2021.

Ngannou knocked out Miocic and took the belt. The Predator then successfully defended the title against Cyril Gane at UFC 270 last January 22nd. Two days after that bout, Ngannou opened as the -220 favorite to beat Jones who came back at +180 in a probable bout. Miocic disappeared from the Jone Jones picture, yet again. Now the talk is back.

“Stipe Makes Sense”

The idea of Jones fighting Miocic is gaining momentum once again after UFC President Dana White recently told TMZ that he hopes to get Jones to return in one of the UFC’s pay-per-view events this summer.

According to White, he wants Jones to fight again soon and he revealed that discussions are ongoing. When asked who Jones could potentially be fighting, the UFC boss said “Stipe makes sense”.

Jones has not fought since a successful light heavyweight title defense against Dominick Reyes at UFC 247 in February 2020. He later vacated the belt after a contract dispute with the UFC. Later, Jones announced that he was working on moving up in weight and competing in the UFC’s heavyweight division.

Miocic meanwhile, has been campaigning for a third fight with Ngannou but the UFC has been deaf to his pleas. Last year, the former two-time UFC heavyweight champion was irked when the UFC did not consider him for the interim heavyweight title fight at UFC 265. Cyril Gane went on to win that bout by defeating Derrick Lewis. Gane challenged Ngannou at UFC 270 last January 22 and lost via unanimous decision.
