  • Francis Ngannou won the UFC heavyweight championship against Stipe Miocic on March 27.
  • The UFC seems interested in booking Jon Jones vs. Ngannou at some point this year.
  • A new Jon Jones update has surfaced that indicates this fight is still on the table.

For the past couple of weeks, Jon Jones has been actively pushing for a big payday to take on the new heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou. Fans around the world are hoping this is the fight that gets made, yet the UFC seems reluctant to match Jon’s demands. Today, we’ll offer a new Jon Jones update, explaining what needs to be done for his fight against Francis to come together.

This fight is far from dead in the water. In fact, Jon seems confident that he will eventually reach an agreement with the UFC on this issue.

Here’s a quick look at this situation!

Francis Ngannou is Now the UFC’s Scariest Champion

The UFC has always dubbed their heavyweight champion as the “baddest man on the planet.” It’s a hard statement to argue against. The UFC is the world’s biggest MMA promotion and heavyweight is the biggest weight class in the sport.

For the past few years, Stipe Miocic has ruled over the heavyweight division. Interestingly, it never seemed like Miocic captured fan interest in a way that a dominant heavyweight champion should. On March 27, Stipe took on Francis Ngnnou in a highly-anticipated rematch.

Francis Ngannou entered this fight as the slight favorite according to most online sports betting sites. He proved this standing correctly by earning a second-round knockout over the reigning champion. It was one of the most impressive title-winning performances in years.

Many now believe that Francis Ngannou is the UFC’s scariest fighter. Fans have never seen a fighter with the type of knockout power that Ngannou possesses. He’s finished every single one of his victories in the UFC and seems to now be in the prime of his career.

Of course, everyone is now wondering who is left for Francis to face next. He is becoming a true superstar in the sport and seems determined to compete again soon. There are a few different names that fans are beginning to throw around.

There may be no bigger fight in the UFC than Jones vs. Ngannou. Here’s a quick look at how this fight could come together.

Here’s Another Jon Jones Update You Need to Know About

Some new fans of MMA may be unfamiliar with Jon Jones’ accomplishments. He won the UFC light-heavyweight title at 23 years old and went on one of the most incredible championship runs in the history of MMA. Most consider him the best pound-for-pound fighter in the sport.

Not long after his close title win over Dominick Reyes in February of 2020, Jones announced he was vacating his belt in order to move to the heavyweight division. It was exciting news for fans and the UFC to hear. Many have been pushing Jon to make the move up in weight for years.

Analysts expected Jones to be thrown straight into a title fight. Before that could happen, though, the rematch between Miocic and Ngannou needed to take place. Ngannou is now the champion and Jon is asking for a major pay boost in order to take on “The Predator” this year.

This week, another Jon Jones update came to light. The sport’s GOAT spoke with TMZ and claimed he’s confident that a deal with the UFC can still be made. You can check out some of his comments below.

“Hopefully the fight happens. We just gotta stay focused and stay training and see what the UFC is going to do on their part,” Jones said. “I think it’s gonna happen … I think the UFC will eventually do the right thing. I think this is one of the greatest fights of our generation and it would be really sad if it weren’t gonna happen. And I believe that it will. People want to see two titans. Francis is already a titan and I’m trying to become a titan. I want to look like a titan. I want to be the same size as this guy if not bigger when we get out there. I’ve got a lot of work to do.”

This is what fans wanted to hear. Jon has faced many of the greatest fighters in MMA history during his reign as the UFC 205-pound champion. Not many believe he is scared against Ngannou. Instead, he wants to continue putting on weight to make himself as close in size to Francis as possible.

Stay tuned for more updates on this situation over the next few weeks!

Ngannou vs. Lewis May be the Next UFC Heavyweight Title Fight

There aren’t a ton of fighters jumping to take on Francis Ngannou right now. He is a true knockout artist and has finished each of his last five opponents by devastating stoppage. The UFC is scrambling to find the next challenger for their new champion.

Rumors are circulating that Ngannou will be taking on Derrick Lewis next. These two men first competed back in July of 2018. It was an extremely dull bout, and Lewis ended up being declared the winner by unanimous decision.

BetOnline is already offering odds on this possible matchup! These odds are offering fans some great opportunities to win big. Hopefully, a rematch between these men ends up being better than their first matchup.

It’s not a shock to see Francis Ngannou listed as the -360 favorite. He appears to be in the prime of his career and showed some major improvements against Miocic in their rematch. It wouldn’t be a shock to see him getting a knockout over Lewis in this bout.

Derrick Lewis may actually be the hardest-hitter in the UFC’s heavyweight division. That power helped him earn a win over Lewis in their first bout. In this rematch, however, he is listed as the +285 underdog. We’ll be sure to offer more information on this possible fight as it draws closer.
