Jordan Love Says He is Ready if His Number Gets Called in Week 1

Jordan Love With Packers Background

  • Jordan Love says he is 100% ready to start in Week 1 if needed by the Packers.
  • Starting QB Aaron Rodgers has been absent at Green Bay’s minicamp and his future remains uncertain.
  • The Packers are still the betting favorites to win the NFC North Division.

Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love says that he is 100% ready if called upon to start on Week 1.

With starter Aaron Rodgers not at the team’s minicamp due to a hold out, Love could be thrown in the lion’s den when the Packers open their 2021 campaign against the New Orleans Saints on September 12th.

According to Love, he is ready for Week 1:

“A hundred percent. Obviously, this is a time where I’m getting a lot of extremely valuable reps that I might not have been getting in a normal circumstance. So I’m just going to take it day by day. … But yeah, that’s what I’m here for. I was drafted here to play quarterback, so I’ll definitely be ready Week 1.”

Love on a Roll at Minicamp

One day after he struggled with his accuracy and barely completed 50% of his passes, Love was on a roll on Wednesday. Sure, it was just Day 2 of the minicamp but after going 12-23 and a failed two-minute drill on Tuesday, it was a breath of fresh air for Matt LaFleur.

He started the day with a 30-yard pass down the right sideline to running back AJ Dillon. Then he had a 45-yard deep ball to Allen Lazard, a deep corner route that was perfectly caught by wide out Juwan Winfree for another 30 yards, and a replica of the Dillon throw for another 30. He completed 21 of 30 passes, including 7-10 in the drill-winning drive that ended with an 8-yard TD pass to Lazard.

Love did not play in a single game during his rookie season in 2020. But during his three years at Utah State, he completed 61.2% of his passes for 8,600 yards with 60 touchdowns and 29 interceptions. He also rushed for 403 yards with nine rushing scores in 38 collegiate games played . The NFL is a much different story but if his performance on Wednesday was any indication, he may be ready to start for the Packers in Week 1, if needed.

Packers’ Odds

The Packers are tied with the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns for the 5th shortest odds to win Super Bowl LVI at +1600 via SportsBetting.ag. Green Bay also has the third best odds to win the NFC Championship in the same online sportsbook at +800. The Green and Gold are still the odds on favorite to win the NFC North at -120.

But while their futures odds remain high, the Packers are off the board when it comes to playoff odds and team win total odds because of the Rodgers issue. The uncertainty of Rodgers has also put Green Bay as current +2.5 betting underdogs for their Week 1 games against the New Orleans Saints who will have either Jameis Winston or Taysom Hill playing under center.

Meanwhile, Rodgers still has the 4th best odds to win the MVP award again this season. Interestingly, Jordan Love is a longshot to win MVP honors at +12500 at ScoreBet and DraftKings even if he isn’t even sure to start for the Packers.
