Rodrigues replaces Wellington Turman who was first booked to fight Marquez. Turman withdrew from the bout as he is still recovering from a broken orbital bone.

Marquez choked out Sam Alvey after a firefight on the feet at UFC Vegas 23 last April 10, 2021, to earn his second consecutive submission win. The Cuban Missile Crisis also choked out Maki Pitolo in his previous bout at UFC 258 in February 2021. Since October 2021, Marquez saw fights against Jordan Wright and Kyle Daukaus canceled after he withdrew from both bouts.
The 32-year-old from Kansas, Missouri began his career fighting under Blackout FC, KCF Alliance, Combate Americas, Bellator, and LFA before appearing in the Contender Series 4 in 2017 where he knocked out Phil Hawes to earn a UFC contract. He is 3-1 inside the Octagon with his lone loss being a split decision against Alessio Di Chirico at the TUF 27 Finale. Marquez has a record of 9-2 with six knockouts and three submission victories.
In five out of his six UFC bouts, Marquez saw the minus money sign written next to his name. The only time that Marquez was the betting underdog was when he fought Phil Hawes in the Contender Series at +220 odds.

Rodrigues is coming off a split decision loss to Armen Petrosyan in a fight where he was the -200 betting favorite. The loss snapped a four-bout winning streak that began after Petrosyan suffered a KO loss to Jordan Williams at the Contender Series 33. The 28-year-old from Rondonia, Brazil defeated Dusko Todorovic and Jun Yong Park to open his UFC career.
A former Smash Global and LFA middleweight champion, Rodrigues also appeared for promotions like Jungle Fight, Face to Face, Island Fights, ACB, and Jaguar Combat. He joined the UFC in 2021 after winning the middleweight title at LFA. Overall, Rodrigues has a record of 11-4 with 5 knockouts and four submission victories.
The Brazilian has been the betting underdog only twice in his previous seven bouts. Rodrigues was a +200 underdog against Josh Frend when he won the belt at LFA 108. He was also the +140 bottom dog against Dusko Todorovic in his UFC debut.
