With James Harden sitting out the game due to rest, KD literally did it all for the Nets against the Pistons. Durant scored 51 points, grabbed 9 rebounds, and issued 7 assists to lead Brooklyn to a hard-earned 116-104 win over Detroit.

Durant’s 51 points are the most by any player in the NBA this season, eclipsing the 50 points put up by Steph Curry against the Atlanta Hawks last month. It was also the highest-scoring game by a player at Little Caesars Arena, breaking the previous mark of 50 set by current Nets teammate Blake Griffin when he was still a member of the Pistons in 2018.
51 was also KD’s career-high in scoring as a member of the Brooklyn Nets and also the 7th 50-point game of his career. It also bumped his season scoring average to 29.4 points per game, the highest in the NBA this season. But more than the records, Durant’s virtuoso performance helped the Nets pull off the win over a stubborn Pistons team.
During a stretch between the middle of the second quarter to the middle of the final period, Durant scored 35 of the Nets’ 55 points and had seven assists which led to 16 points. That meant he was responsible for 51 of his team’s 55 points during that span. Brooklyn opened the 4th quarter with a 19-1 run to take a 105-92 lead. KD scored nine of those points and assisted on two baskets, thereby accounting for 13 of the 19 points scored by the Nets during that run.

Durant entered Sunday’s game against the Detroit Pistons as the second favorite to win the 2022 NBA MVP award at +500 via Caesars Sportsbook. After dropping 51 points on Sunday against the Pistons and his MVP odds have soared.
Stephen Curry is still the +120 betting favorite at Caesars but KD is now at +450 there. Durant is also listed at +450 at BetMGM with Curry ahead of him at +140. Over at PointsBet USA, the Nets’ forward is now closing in on Curry at +300 against +125. Bet365 USA has Curry listed at +140 and Durant at +275. KD is also at +275 at the Barstool Sportsbook with Chef Curry at +130.
The NBA’s 2022 MVP race began with Luka Doncic as odds on favorite. However, a strong start pushed Curry to the top of the MVP betting boards early in the season. But just as Curry looked like he was starting to break away from the pack in the betting boards, Durant has closed the gap and is threatening to challenge his hold of the “betting favorite” status.
