  • The Los Angeles Rams are laying the most points for Week 8 at 14.5 points against the Houston Texans.
  • Green Bay moved from +3.6 to +6 after wide receiver Davante Adams was placed on the COVID-19 list.
  • The Washington Football Team (+3) have the highest early bet count for an underdog team at 81% of the tickets against the Denver Broncos.

The Los Angeles Rams and the Buffalo Bills will lay the most points in Week 8 of the 2021 NFL season.

According to the Week 8 opening odds posted at online sportsbook BetOnline, the Rams’ 14.5 spread over the Houston Texans and the Bills’ 13.5 points advantage against the Miami Dolphins are the largest by any team playing in week 8.

Those two games were also the only games with double-digit spread when the lines first opened but after the early betting action, a pair of 9.5 point spreads have turned into double-digit spreads with the Cincinnati Bengals now laying 10 points against the New York Jets and the Kansas City Chiefs favored by 10 points against the New York Giants.

Packers Move from +3.5 to +6

The biggest change since the Week 8 opening spread lines was posted came from the Green Bay Packers at the Arizona Cardinals game. The spread line opened at +3.5 points for the Packers but has since moved to +6 after the Packers placed WR Davante Adams on the COVID-19 reserve list on Monday.

Per the NFL-NFLPA agreement, teams are not allowed to comment on a player’s medical status other than referring to the roster status. But when a player is sent to the COVID-19 list, it’s because a player has tested positive for COVID-19 or is a close contact with a person who is infected with the virus. With Adams leading Green Bay in catches (52) and receiving yards (744), Aaron Rodgers could be without his main weapon and thus the change in betting lines.

Other changes in the opening spread include the Cleveland Browns going from -3 to -4 when they host the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Dallas Cowboys at -3 from -1.5 when they visit the Minnesota Vikings, the L.A. Chargers moving to -5.5 from -6 in their home game against the New England Patriots, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers becoming five-point chalk after opening at -4.5 in their road game against the New Orleans Saints.

Week 8 Early Bet Count

As far as the early betting count is concerned, the Bengals are the most heavily bet team so far with 96% of the bets despite laying 10 points to the Jets. The Bengals are off to one of their best starts in recent memory at 5-2 and are playing well with Ja’Marr Chase leading the Offensive Rookie of the Year betting at -140 via BetMGM and Joe Burrow moving from +10000 to +4000 in the MVP odds boards at the Caesars Sportsbook.

The Cowboys at -3 against the Vikings have 94% of the total bets written while the Buccaneers (-5) have 92% of the early bet count against the Saints. Other significant betting percentages include the Tennessee Titans (-1.5) at 89% against the Indianapolis Colts, Buffalo (-13.5) at 86% against Miami, and Seattle (-3) at 85% versus Jacksonville.

The Washington Football Team has the highest bet count for an underdog team in Week 8 at 81% at +3 against the Denver Broncos. The New York Giants have 60% of the early total bet count at +10 against the Kansas City Chiefs while the Packers (+6) and Patriots (+5.5) have 54% of the bets against the Cardinals and Chargers, respectively. The only winless team in the NFL in the Detroit Lions (+3) have 52% of the bets against the Philadelphia Eagles.
