Max Verstappen Gets Warning After Dominant Styrian Grand Prix Win

Max Verstappen Beats Hamilton

  • Max Verstappen put on a dominant performance to win the Styrian Grand Prix on Sunday.
  • Red Bull and Verstappen got a warning from F1 officials for his post-race celebration near the finish line.
  • Verstappen is the -200 betting favorite at Bet365 to win his first Drivers title.

Max Verstappen won the Styrian Grand Prix onSunday, giving Red Bull victory at its home turf and a four consecutive race win in the 2021 Formula One Grand Prix.

Verstappen was in dominant form at the Red Bull Ring, winning comfortably from pole position. Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton finished in second place but was a far 35 seconds off Verstappen’s pace.

Red Bull Warned

But while Verstappen raced flawlessly, his victory did not come without a blot. Red Bulls received a warning from race official regarding Vestappen’s post-race celebration near the finish line.

The Red Bull driver slowed down to a stop on the pit straight as he finished the race and performed a burnout in front of his team to celebrate his victory. But being so close to the finish line, Verstappen put himself in close proximity to cars that were arriving at that part of the track at high speed, thus risking an accident.

F1’s Sporting Regulations allow winning drivers to celebrate on the tract but Article 43.3 states that “the winning driver […] may perform an act of celebration before reaching parc fermé, provided any such act […] is performed safely and does not endanger other drivers or any officials.”

Fortunately, Verstappen was so dominant in the race that no other driver crossed the finish line after he did, giving the Red Bull ace enough time to celebrate. Still, F1 made it clear that there will be no repeat of that. But as far as another victory is concerned, you can’t say the same for Verstappen and Red Bull.

Verstappen Extends Lead

Verstappen has won three out of the last four races of the 2021 F-1 World Championship and with the Red Bull Ring hosting back to back races, there is a golden chance for Verstappen to repeat his success next weekend and extend further his championship lead over Hamilton.

Hamilton is now 18 points back of Verstappen and has not won a race in his last four starts. The last time that he hasn’t crossed the chequered flag first in four consecutive races was in 2016. Incidentally, Hamilton finished 2nd that year and that was the last time he did not win the Drivers title.

With his win at the Styrian Open, Verstappen is now the clear -200 betting favorite at Bet365 to win the 2021 Drivers championship. Meanwhile Hamilton, who is chasing a record-setting 8th world title this season, is in unfamiliar territory as he has fallen back to second at +150 at the same online sportsbook.

Had it not been for a Pirelli tyre error at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix earlier this month, Verstappen could’ve easily won the last four races and taken at least a 25-point lead over Hamilton. Still, he’s starting to look invincible now, the way Hamilton was during the previous five seasons.
