- Dennis Schroder is a +200 favorite to play for the Miami Heat next season.
- The Detroit Pistons have the second-best odds to land Schroder in free agency at +225.
- Schroder split last season with the Boston Celtics and Houston Rockets.
A recent Instagram comment to a LeBron James post has linked Dennis Schroder to a possible return to the Los Angeles Lakers:

However, the Purple and Gold are not among the Top 6 betting favorites to be Schroder’s next team.
According to the online sportsbook Bovada, the Miami Heat are the +200 to land the free agent.
Schroder to the Miami Heat?
Bleacher Report links Dennis Schroder to the Miami Heat
“Assuming the Heat don’t win the Kevin Durant sweepstakes, they’ll need to find ways to juice their half-court offense. Of the realistic options still available, Schroder might be the best one to provide that spark.” pic.twitter.com/sU5vs3fgUm

Multiple media outlets, including Bleacher Report, said that the Miami Heat is interested in adding Schroder to their lineup. Per BR, Schoder is the Heat’s backup plan to “juice their half-court offense” if they don’t win the Kevin Durant sweepstakes. With Brooklyn asking for the moon and the star for KD, it appears Miami has waved the white flag in that race, hence they could be turning their attention to Schroder.
Another report suggested that Schroder will likely sign with the Heat at the taxpayer mid-level of $6.5 million to help keep the aging Kyle Lowry fresh for the playoffs. Lowry was Miami’s top free agent acquisition last summer but after a solid regular season performance, he struggled in the playoffs.
The Heat finished with the best record in the Eastern Conference last season after making the NBA Finals two seasons ago. However, they were beaten by a younger and faster Boston Celtics team in the 2022 NBA Finals. Miami was among the early betting favorites to land Kevin Durant when he first asked to be traded. That rumor has died down with Brooklyn’s steep asking price.
Cost-Effective Option for Pistons
“Sources say Detroit has also been weighing the free-agent pursuit of Dennis Schröder as a more cost-effective option for the Pistons’ backcourt.”
— NBA Analysis Network (@HoopAnalysisNet) June 20, 2022
The Detroit Pistons’ lineup has improved since last season when they finished with the third-worst record in the NBA. The Pistons drafted Jaden Ivey to partner with Cade Cunningham in their backcourt. They also signed free agent forward Kevin Knox and re-signed Marvin Bagley III to a deal. But while they also have Cory Joseph and Alec Burks, the Pistons don’t have that veteran player who could give them a spark as Schroder can. Detroit is currently the +225 favorite to sign Schroder.
Next on the list are the New York Knicks at +600 who are always on the prowl for any prominent free agent. The Knicks added Jaylen Brunson in free agency and also have Immanuel Quickley and Derrick Rose however, Schroder would provide a different help for them off the bench. The Nets are also at +600 to land Schroder. Brooklyn could end up losing Kyrie Irving to the Lakers so getting Schroder could be insurance for them.
Dallas is the third team at +600 and after losing a key backcourt contributor like Brunson, they will need someone to fill the void to build on a season where they made it to the 2022 Western Conference Finals. Finally, the Charlotte Hornets are at +800. The Hornets have LaMelo Ball and Terry Rozier but Schroder would provide them with an equally solid option coming off the bench.
