No Need to Remind Thug Rose

There is no need to remind Thug Rose about her first encounter with Esparza because the defeat still lingers in her mind seven years later. Namajunas and Esparza fought at The Ultimate Fighter 20 finale to determine the UFC’s first women’s strawweight champion. The 27-year-old Esparza submitted Namajunas via rear-naked choke to win the belt. But since then a lot has changed.
Esparza lost the title in her first title defense against Joanna Jedrzejczyk and disappeared from the title picture. However, five consecutive wins since 2019 have installed her as the no. 2 ranked female strawweight in the UFC. And with the top-ranked contender being the fighter Namajunas beat for the belt, Esparza finally gets another crack at weaning the strawweight belt again.
Namajunas meanwhile has blossomed into a Rose since losing to Esparza, going 9-2 since that bout and establishing herself as one of the best fighters in the women’s side of the sport. Thug Rose is currently on her second reign as champion and has looked better than she was during her first reign. Namajunas is 4-0 in rematches and is looking to increase that mark to five straight wins on Saturday night.

Interestingly, Namajunas is the only betting favorite on the main card whom bettors are hammering. Michael Chandler at -400 odds is the only other favorite who has more than 50% of the total bets with 52% against Tony Ferguson who is currently pegged at +300. Chandler and Ferguson are a combined 0-5 in their last five UFC bouts but is one of the more highly-anticipated matchups in the event, owing to their fan-friendly fighting style.
Meanwhile, bettors at BetOnline are split between champion Charles Oliveira and challenger Justin Gaethje for the main event, with both fighters getting a 50% share of the total bets for their lightweight title fight. Oliveira is currently listed at -181 with Gaethje coming back at +156. Oliveira has won 10 consecutive bouts including nine via stoppage. Gaethje meanwhile is 6-3 overall under the UFC banner.
Joe Lauzon has the shortest odds among UFC 274 main card underdogs at +144 but he is the most heavily-bet underdog in the main card with 66% of the total bets against Donald Cerrone. Cowboy is the -164 betting favorite in the bout but is winless in his last six bouts with five losses during that span. On the other hand, Mauricio Rua has 61% of the tickets for his rematch with Ovince Saint Preux. Shogun is listed at +205, the second-longest underdog in the main cad, while Saint Preux is priced at -240.
