- The Nets were beaten by the Boston Celtics 109-103 on Saturday night and ae now down 0-3 in the series.
The Brooklyn Nets’ fall from grace is almost complete, not that we want it, but because it looks inevitable now.
After opening as the preseason odds on favorite to win the 2022 NBA championship, the Nets have struggled to live up to expectations and are now only one loss away from getting booted out in the first round of the 2022 NBA Playoffs.
After three games played in their best-of-seven series against the Boston Celtics, the Nets find themselves in a 3-0 hole. No team in the history of the NBA playoffs has come back from a 0-3 deficit to win the series.
Not the Season We Expected from Brooklyn

After coming up short in the 2021 Eastern Conference Finals against the eventual champions Milwaukee Bucks, the Brooklyn Nets entered the 2021-22 NBA season with the highest of expectations. Brooklyn opened as the +250 odds on favorite to win the 2022 NBA title. But with Kyrie Irving not allowed to play in the Nets’ home games at the start of the year, the Nets struggled to find their form.
The struggles continued even after Irving was finally allowed to play late in the season. The Nets finished the season with only 44 wins, going 12.5 games under their preseason win total of 56 which was the highest in the league. Brooklyn entered the season as a massive -10000 to make the playoffs but they needed to beat the Cleveland Cavaliers in a play-in tournament game just to earn the 7th seed in the Eastern Conference.
Brooklyn earned a first-round date with the no. 2 ranked Boston Celtics and opened with +110 odds to win their best-of-seven series. The Nets had the shortest odds among all the first-round underdogs and the series against Boston was a heavy favorite to go the seven-game distance. But Jayson Tatum and the Celtics have proven to be too much for the Nets to handle. After three games, the Nets are down 0-3 in the series and are now longshots at +6600 to win the NBA title as of Sunday evening.

After: Nets -1.5

Before Game 3, there were talks that Ben Simmons would make his Brooklyn debut in Game 4 as the Nets look to salvage their season by extending the series for at least one more game. However, after Game 3, Simmons was suddenly ruled out of Game 4 after reportedly experiencing back soreness when he woke up on Sunday.
In contrast, Boston’s Robert Williams III was able to play for 16 minutes after returning from a torn meniscus that needed surgery. Although Williams wasn’t able to contribute his usual numbers, his mere presence was a spark to his teammates. Unfortunately, Simmons won’t give the Nets that same kind of spark in Game 4 as he has chosen to cheer on the sidelines instead of get into the action.
Brooklyn opened as the -1.5 point spread favorite in Game 4 and Simmons’ decision did not alter the betting odds for the game. Still, the odds are against Brooklyn now with BetMGM listing the Celtics as massive -5000 betting favorites to advance to Round 2 against the Bucks. According to MyBookie.ag, the Celtics-Net series is a +110 favorite to end in four games and a +160 to end in five while the odds of going to a Game 7 listed at just +680.
