Okay, guys, here we go.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has announced that the NFL draft will be going on as planned. The NFL Draft will take place as previously scheduled for April 23-25.

As per the memo:

“As you know, we have been reviewing and addressing all aspects of our off-season operations, including the Draft, in light of current public health conditions. Earlier today, the CEC discussed the issues relating to the draft. The Committee was unanimous and unequivocal that the Draft should go forward as scheduled on April 23-25, 2020.”

Where Will the Draft Be Held?

The 2020 Draft was set to be a massive event held in the great city of Las Vegas. It was reported earlier that this would not be a public event, given the circumstances.

In the memo sent by Goodell, it states that the 2020 Draft will “obviously have to be conducted in a different way.”

The logistics of how this will work is not entirely set in stone. What we do know is the NFL will be taking the necessary precautions to make sure everyone stays as safe as possible. All public events have been canceled, as it seems that prospects and families will not be brought to a Draft location.

NFL teams need to be prepared to conducts the draft outside of team facilities, and they won’t have a large number of team members to work with.

Mixed Feelings from Fans

Many people replied to Adam Schefter’s tweet. Scrolling through the comments for only about 10 seconds, you can find a lot of different responses to the news about the draft.

Many different people have also chimed in about their feelings on the draft, including Saints GM Mickey Loomis. According to ESPN, Loomis has this to say on the matter:

“I’d be personally in favor of delaying the draft, so that we can get some of the work done that our scouts and our personnel people ordinarily do,” Loomis said. “And then just the logistics of trying to conduct the draft, with not having access to your draft rooms and your offices, creates a lot of logistic problems.”

Closing Thoughts

Obviously, I’m super pumped at the prospect of having something sports-related to watch again. However, Goodell addressed it in his memo, but I just hope everyone involved stays safe.
