- Rumors indicate that Nick Diaz’s next fight will be taking place this summer.
For the past few weeks, MMA fans have been debating whether or not Nick Diaz will ever make a return to the Octagon. He’s been in negotiations with UFC President Dana White and seems determined to fight again. This week, White told the media that Nick Diaz’s next fight could end up taking place this summer.
Interestingly, Dana White does not seem convinced that Diaz will ever decide to actually fight again. There are some fun matchups available for him, though. Now is the perfect time to talk about when and where he could make his comeback.
Let’s get into it!
Dana White is Unsure if Nick Diaz Wants to Compete Again
Back in September of 2003, a young fighter from Stockton, California named Nick Diaz made his debut with the UFC. No one really knew what to expect from him at that time. He quickly racked up two impressive wins in the promotion and some felt he would end up becoming a champion in the promotion.
Diaz ended up departing the UFC in 2006 and went on to compete for various promotions around the world. In January of 2010, he captured the Strikeforce welterweight championship of the world. He became a true superstar in Strikeforce and put on some of the most exciting fights in the history of the sport.
Nick Diaz made his return to the UFC in 2011 and announced his retirement from the sport in 2015. Then, during the UFC’s recent event in Jacksonville, Diaz was shown in attendance. Fans immediately began debating how he would match up with the champion, Kamaru Usman.
Dana White then revealed he was about to speak with Nick about a possible return. This week, fans heard a little more about how this meeting went.
“It went good,” White said. “My whole thing with Nick Diaz is I just question how bad he really wants to fight. We got together, we had great conversation, talked about a possible comeback for him. I just don’t know. We’ll see how it plays out this summer and the rest of this year… When you hear him talk about fighting, you hear him talk about the sport, and I sit down daily or talk to daily [with] hungry, young savages that want to break into the top-10, become world champions, all that stuff. Nick Diaz has done it all, seen it all, he’s been in big fights, I just don’t see that in him when I talk to him.”
Some are disappointed to hear White’s comments. Nick Diaz remains a huge fan favorite and would likely draw in a massive number of viewers to any fight he competes in. Dana doesn’t seem overly interested in matching him up against a fellow veteran fighter, though.
Many are now trying to figure out who Nick will be facing next in the ring. Here’s what we know about his possible return to the cage!
Expect to See Nick Diaz’s Next Fight Taking Place This Summer
The UFC is working hard to book events months ahead. The promotion has a massive roster of elite fighters. Obviously, many are curious to see how Nick Diaz would match up against many of the best fighters at welterweight and middleweight.
Dana White is skeptical that Nick will want to compete against the fighters the UFC is interested in matching him up against. No one really knows who that is at this point. Rumors have been circulating that the UFC is at least playing with the idea of matching him up against Khamzat Chimaev in the future.
It also seems likely that Nick Diaz’s next fight will be taking place this summer. The UFC has some massive events planned over June, July, and August. Diaz could serve as a perfect co-main event for any of these cards.
A bout against someone like Vicente Luque would be an excellent one for fans. Diaz is known for his willingness to compete against fellow strikers. There is a good chance that he would be willing to accept a fight with a known finisher like Luque. It would be fascinating to see how different online sports betting sites set the odds for this matchup.
Michael Chiesa might be another interesting opponent for Diaz to face. He is a solid wrestler and has elite submission skills. The grappling battle between these men would be fascinating for fans to see.
Hopefully, Nick Diaz’s next fight will be announced soon. His return would be special for longtime fans of the sport to see. Stay tuned for updates!
Nate Diaz is Set to Compete on June 12
Nick Diaz was one of the UFC’s earliest stars. Interestingly, his younger brother Nate Diaz has grown to become a true superstar in more recent years. His bouts with Conor McGregor and Jorge Masvidal were some of the biggest in UFC history.
Some felt that Nate would hang up the gloves after his loss to Masvidal in 2019. That was not the case. Instead, Nate has been back in training, looking again to move up the welterweight rankings. He is now slated to take on Leon Edwards on June 12 after their original date was pushed back due to an injury.
Bovada is the best place to bet on this fight. This site is well-known for being one of the most complete online sports betting sites in the world. There are some great odds for Diaz vs. Edwards being offered here.
Nate Diaz is as tough as they come. He’s a solid boxer and has some of the best submission skills in the entire welterweight division. Nate hasn’t competed in years, though, which could explain why he is listed as the +350 underdog in this bout.
Leon Edwards hasn’t lost in the UFC since 2015. A win here all but guarantees he will earn the next shot at Kamaru Usman’s world title. At the moment, Edwards comes into this fight as the -500 favorite. Stay tuned for an in-depth betting breakdown of this bout over the next few weeks.
