Maximov and Petroski are scheduled to throw down at UFC on ESPN 36 on May 14th, in an event that will be headlined by former UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz and Aleksandar Rakic.

Maximov Defeats Punahele Soriano via SD

The undefeated Maximov is one of the young prospects in the UFC’s middleweight division. A product of the Nick Diaz Academy, Maximov has won his first two UFC assignments and is coming off a split decision win over Punahele Soriano in his most recent bout at UFC Vegas 47 last February 5th. That victory came after Maximov outpointed Cody Brundage in his UFC debut at UFC 266 last September 25, 2021.

Maximov has fought for organizations like KOTC, Bea River FC, Iron Pit Productions, and LFA before joining the Contender Series in November 2020 where he defeated Oscar Cota to win a UFC contract. The 24-year old from Chico, California has an unblemished record of 8-0 with two knockouts and three submission victories.

This will mark the fourth time in his last five bouts where Maximov has opened as the betting favorite. Interestingly, the only bout where Maximov was an underdog was during his last fight against Soriano. The Diaz Brothers’ protege opened at +145 odds and closed at +160 in that bout.

Petroski Chokes Out Hu Yaozong

Like his opponent, Andre Petroski has a similar 2-0 promotional record. The Renzo Gracie Philadelphia product knocked out Michael Gilmore in his UFC debut at UFC on ESPN 30 on August 30, 2021. He returned to action two months later at UFC 267 where he defeated Hu Yaozong via third-round arm-triangle choke for his second straight win inside the UFC Octagon.

The 30-year-old from Glendora, New Jersey began his fighting career at the Art of War Cage Fighting Promotion where he picked up a perfect 5-0 record with all his wins coming via stoppage. Petroski then suffered his first career loss when he fought Aaron Jeffery at the main event of LFA 93 in October 2020. Petroski has an overall record of 7-1 with all of his wins coming inside the distance – four via KO and three via submission.

Petroski will be the betting underdog for the first time inside the UFC Octagon. He closed as a massive -475 betting favorite against Gilmore in his UFC debut and entered the Octagon as the -210 chalk in his last fight against Hu. The last time that Petroski saw the plus money sign written next to his name was when he fought Jeffery at +220 odds.
