Browns are Favored to Land Garoppolo in Potential Trade

Jimmy Garoppolo Whats Next

  • Browns favored to obtain Garoppolo in trade
  • Cleveland’s odds suggest they have rights to fourth QB of off-season
  • Browns’ odds shade Lion’s numbers in Garoppolo trade sweepstakes

With Trey Lance sitting in the wings as the quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers, the team gave the agents of quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo permission to look for a trade.

This came on the heels of Garoppolo choosing not to seek rehab on his right shoulder which was injured in last season’s playoff game against the Dallas Cowboys. The Cleveland Browns (+300) have become the favorite to land Garoppolo with the Lions (+400), Texans (+500), and Falcons (+750) in pursuit.

Garoppolo is set to start practicing, but the 49ers have to be careful with his injury as the summer and a potential training camp go forward.

The 49ers (+150) sit just behind the Los Angeles Rams (+125), who have the best odds to win the division. The Arizona Cardinals (+400) have an NFC west crown in sight while the Seattle Seahawks (+1800) sit as the NFC West long shot.

Garoppolo has been cleared earlier than expected for the trade as it was reported that the trade could happen by mid-august.

Browns’ Chances Improve To Gain Garoppolo

The Cleveland Browns are noted as the only team that can be able to pay Garoppolo the entirety of his $24.2M salary for this season. That idea in itself would make Cleveland the favorite to obtain Garoppolo, but Cleveland picked up quarterbacks Deshaun Watson and Jacoby Brissett in the offseason.

The jostling at quarterback has left the Browns the most likely with those (+300) odds to obtain the Niners’ quarterback.

Garoppolo would fit on Lake Erie as the Browns are expecting an eight-game suspension for Watson and they had already traded Baker Mayfield to the Carolina Panthers.

The odds on Cleveland obtaining the 49ers signal caller have improved immeasurably as they sat (+1200) after Super Bowl LVI. The Browns’ odds currently are posted at (+190) to win the AFC Central and are sitting at (+1000) to win the AFC while posted at (+1800) to win Super Bowl LVII.

Baltimore (+160) and Cincinnati (+190) are the favorites in the AFC North while Pittsburgh (+1000) has the longest odds to win the division.

Detroit Looking Like a Close Suitor to Cleveland

Jared Goff is currently the odds on favorite to rekindle his role as the starting quarterback of the Detroit Lions; however, the Lions (+400) are just trailing the Lions in the ability to pick up Garropolo.

Please Note:
Goff completed 67 percent of his passes last season and had 19 touchdown passes with eight interceptions as he played in 14 of the 17 games after facing an injured knee. Garropolo’s numbers barely edged Goff as he had 20 touchdown passes with 12 interceptions while completing 68.3 percent of his passes.

The Lions are usually predicted to be in a quagmire of NFL football as they have not had a winning season since going 9-7 in 2017. Detroit (+900) has the third-best odds to win the NFC North behind Green Bay (-175) and Minnesota (+275), but currently leads the Bears (+1200). The Lions still shade the Texans (+500) and the Falcons (+750) in odds for making a Garoppolo trade.

Both Houston and Atlanta both will have new signal-callers for this 2022 season. The Texans have elevated Davis Mills, who was backup to Deshaun Watson while the Falcons brought in Maurice Mariotta from the Tennessee Titans. The Texans still have long odds (+3000) to win the AFC South although they brought in offensive line help for Mills. The Colts (-125) are currently the favorite with their new quarterback, Matt Ryan. The Titans (+170) and the Jacksonville Jaguars (+700) have odds that have buried Houston this summer as Houston started with odds at (+2200) and dropped.

The Falcons (+2200) are like the Texans in that they also sport the worst odds to win their division, the NFC South, as they trail Tampa Bay (-325), New Orleans (+325) and the Carolina Panthers (+1400). The Falcons’ odds opened at (+500) to win their division.
